Chapter 6 - Am I dreaming, or do you know?

Reader´s P.o.v.

This was our last training ´day´.

By this point, it wasn´t a day. It were several. We were divided into groups, four cadets to one squad leader. This left me, Eren and Levi as a group of three. Beforehand, Levi discussed with Erwin that the two of us had to be together due to our recent enrollment into his squad.

We rode without any complications so far. The only thing was that when the day progressed, black clouds began to fill the sky above us.  We rode on, wishing for no rain until a shelter was found.

"Levi has someone ever pissed themselves during an expedition before?" Eren asked Levi but he knew he would probably not get a reply to such a question.

"Tch....Yes."

We looked at him surprised. Eren attempted to control his laugh but failed.

"They must have been really big wimps!" he chuckled.

I couldn´t help but laugh at his childish comment. Levi only ignored us. He only stroked the mane from his horse.  I knew from we were young that he got along better with animals than with people.

"Levi Heichou...Uhm"

"Oi spit  it out brat"

"Ah okay. So do you have a girlfriend or something like that?"

I looked surprised to Eren and blushed a little as he grinned at me as when he would plan something.

"Tch brat. How do you come up with these useless questions?"

"Sorry, Levi Heichou" Eren said looking down.

"It´s just Levi."

"Just. You know, you always act so angry and impatient. I couldn´t help myself but ask."

Levi glared at him, his eyes sharper than usual.

"I don´t have a girlfriend, but I do have someone who I love dearly."

I looked over to him, baffled by his honesty.

"Really? Who is the luck lady?" Eren teased.

"That´s none of your fucking business Jäger. She is probably dead anyway." Levi shooed off.

"Sorry Sir. I didn´t mean anything."

The mood in the air shifted.

For  a while, all you heard was the faint step of the horses hoofs clapping against the earth.

Our conversation had died. The long awkward silence surrounded us.

All this time, we rode through the open forest. When we came through it, a mountainous landscape presented us. The protection from the tree´s overgrowth was no longer there.

The true climate showed itself. The clouds huddled together, the entire sky was a blanket of grey-black. It looked far darker now.

"Look for a place where we can stay at night Cadets, rain comes with thunder in this type of sky." Levi said casually.

"Yes, Sir." Eren and I said in unison.

"Do you think the storm will be a bad one?" I said in a hushed voice, "because if it is, we need wood to burn. Wet wood is useless, we should collect now."

Eren agreed with me. Levi was the first to hoist himself off his horse. Eren followed shortly after.

They made their way into the environment while I took care of the horses. They returned after a few minutes.  Eren carried a few branches and Levi held a whole stack of wood. I grinned at them.
