"Hands Up! Don't Shoot! Hands Up! Don't Shoot!" The crowd screamed outside. "Can't they protest another day." Sara mumbled looking out the window. "Honestly, I don't understand what's so important about one person dying. My grandma died last month, you don't see me protesting." Rylie retorted. "Dinner!" Mrs.White yelled. Glad this conversations over. My friends are very privileged nonetheless. I mean being mixed has its perks but picking a race is the hardest part. "Coming!" Rylie and Sara said in sync. At moments like these, I want to disappear. I walk into the dining room and sit down. Chicken. Yum. I think I'd rather eat boxed macaroni than Mrs.White's chicken. Gross, did she boil it or something. "Wow, this is delicious. What seasoning did you use?" I said with a forced smile. " None! Isn't that amazing! I saw on Facebook that boiled is the new grilled." Mrs.White replied. That explains so much. "I can't wait for the track meet right, V," Sara said. "Yeah, It's gonna be great!" I said. In reality, I'm terrified. This race it the start of my career. If I mess up it's what I'm known for. If I win I open the door for college scouts. I'm terrified. "You'll do great." Mr.White says sensing my fear. "Yeah, I know. I'm just nervous." I replied. "You have nothing to worry about, V," Sara said. Easy for her to say. Scholarships aren't on the line. Easy to not worry when you have enough money to go to college and grad school. "Yeah, I just need some sleep." I say as I get up. "Okay, goodnight girls." Mrs.White replied. As I got ready for bed all I could think about was that conversation. That's what privilege will do to you. "Let's watch some Netflix!" Rylie said excited. "Sorry Ry I have to get up early. Track meets tomorrow!" I said as I went to change. It's nice having rich friends. I mean I have my own room in their house. I designed it and everything. I don't know how they bought it. Mr.White is a cop and Mrs.White is a stay at home mom. I guess Mrs. Whites's trust fund is huge. "Goodnight." We all said as we went into our rooms. I close my door and call my mom. "Hey!" My mom says. " Hey mom. How's Charlotte?" I ask. "It's great we're at your brothers house." She replies. "When are you coming back?" She asks. "After States" I reply. "Okay, Have fun and good luck!" She exclaims. "Goodnight." I say chuckling. Now I'm more worried. If I win states then I'm going to have to move in with Mr. and Mrs.White. I don't know if my mom could take care of all of my siblings without me.
