Scene opens up to display the inside of an arena. Panning down to the ice we see a hockey game well under way. The puck being expertly handled by number 39, who deeks in and out amongst much larger other players. Setting up near the boards to take a shot. A massive neanderthal of a man from the opposite team smashes number 39 into the boards.
"Sorry sweet cheeks, no hard feelings but you don't belong out here." The neanderthal says.
Number 39 slowly gets to their feet and starts to shake the cobwebs from their brain.
"Like hell you just said that to me." A female voice is heard saying.
With the rage of a bull seeing red, she got up, threw off her gloves and skating as fast as her 5'7" female body would allow her, she speared right into the back of the opposing player, laying them both out flat on the ice. A member of her team, her best friend and team captian, Marcus comes skating in, stopping right beside her shoulder.
"AJ, what the hell?" He says
Marcus extends his hand and helps AJ to her feet, all the while shaking his head while the referee blows his whistle and skates over to stop on the opposite side of Marcus.
"Number 39, 2 minute penalty for misconduct." The ref yells.
"Are you kidding me? Misconduct, are you f'n blind ref. How about I get you a pair of glasses?" AJ yells at the ref.
Steaming mad, she gives the still laying neanderthal a swift kick.
"Additional 2 minute penalty for unsportsmanlike actions." The ref yells in her face.
She can feel more rage burning deep in her, her face growing contorted and red. Marcus grabs her by the arm.
"Ok hot stuff, lets get to the penalty box and cool off before you get thrown from the game." Marcus says.
With rage overhelming her, she removes her helmet. She spins around and throws it at the referee, hitting him right square in the forehead.
"You're out of here. Captain get your player off of my ice now before I disqualify your whole team." The referee yells with a red face.
She can see the anger flood over Marcus's face as he drags her off the ice and back into the locker room. Turning to look at her.
"Damn it AJ. You can't keep doing this. You realize you're going to get yourself kicked from the team. The owner doesn't care if you're a girl or not. He wants a functioning team that wins with honour, not a bunch of hot heads. I love you like a sister and all but I can't keep covering for you. Last time the guy grabbed your ass, what did this one do?" Marcus rants as he looks AJ in the eyes.
Smugly she replies, "He had the nerve to call me sweet cheeks?"
Marcus with a look of bewilderment, " Are you kidding me? We call you sweet cheeks all the time." he shakes his head, "No that's not it."
One thing about Marcus, he always knew when she was lying. Being called sweet cheeks never bothered her but being told that she didn't belong was a different story and it hurt her deep down.
"Fine, he told me I didn't belong."
"AJ, why do you listen to people? You're better then over half the guys out on that ice. You're part of the top 3 scorers in the league." Marcus boasts, "That guy is just jealous."
Marcus places his hand on the side of her face. Slowly stroking his thumb back and forth over her cheek. At that moment she noticed something in his eyes that she had never seen in the 15 years of their friendship.
"But Marcus." she says
Marcus drops his hand from her cheek. Shakes his head and turns away form her.
