New schools... Why? It's not okay.
We had to move from New York, to Malibu.
Yes, it's beachy and beautiful, but I did not want to move.
"Hurry up Danielle, you'll be late for school!" my mom yells up the stairs. It got sort of muffled, that's the effect of a closed door.
"I'll be down in a sec!" I yelled back.
I was still in bed, so I groaned loudly.
I dragged my lazy ass out of bed and went to sit down at my vanity.
Ah! It's a hideous beast! Oh, wait, no, it's just me.
I grabbed my face moisturiser and applied it to my face. I have such a puffy morning face.
While I let my moisturiser sink in, I put on a just-above-the-knee light blue sundress with floral patterns and some black flats.
I grabbed a light brown velvet school bag and chucked a few pens and a notebook in.
I swung the bag onto my bed and sat back down at my vanity.
Most of my morning puffiness was gone, due to the moisturiser.
I put lengthening mascara on, and an extremely thin line of eyeliner. Then I slapped some watermelon chapstick on and set off downstairs.
Mom was in the kitchen, eating a piece of toast and reading The Women's Weekly, her favorite magazine.
"I'll see you this afternoon mom, love you." I said, grabbing a green apple from the bowl of fruit.
I closed the door behind me as I set off down the street. I kept to the sidewalk, as I usually did. I turned multiple corners and kept Google Maps open on my iPhone XR, so I had an idea where I was going. As I neared the school, my heart rate increased.
I put my phone into the pocket of my sundress and looked around for a teacher.
"Wow.." I mumbled. The school was massive. The courtyard was empty, so the bell must have already gone. I've got a student guide anyway.
Speak of the Devil.
"Hey, there. You must be Danielle Marina?"
I nodded and swallowed.
"I'm Sylvia Greene. Only the best person alive. Kidding. Not really." she laughed.
"N-nice to meet you I guess..?"
"Of course it is! I'm the best person for you to be guided by, everyone else here is incapable." She took me by the arm and we started walking into the gates. "You'll soon understand the curriculum of this school, and meet all of the boneheads who inhabit these halls. Love your dress, by the way. It reminds me of the dress my Grandma was buried in." She let out a massive laugh.
"Ahhh, my Grandma was the sweetest lady in the world. She made me sugar-free cookies."
"So does my Grandma. Old people are so sweet and adorable." I giggled.
"So, what's your first class?" She asked, leaning over to peek at my timetable.
"Oh, I have Science in F7." I said, folding up the timetable and slipping it into my bag.
"Well, I will take you to that room and meet you there after class." she said, guiding me to Science.
When we got to the Science room, Sylvia knocked on the door and waited.
"This is where I take my leave. Remember, wait for me here at the end of class." she said, and I nodded in compliance.
A man, who I assumed was my Science teacher walked over to the door and opened it.
