It took him longer to get back to Selphia with his injury. The sun was just rising in the sky when he reached the gate to Selphia. Losing about all of his strength from the journey home, he fell to his knees and started to lose consciousness . The last thing he saw before he blacked out was the worried face of Forte, the guard on duty who had run to him at the sight of his collapse.
When he awoke, the first thing he noticed was the little girl sitting at his bedside. She was smiling at him with a look of relief in her face.
" Your awake!" She cried happily.
Dylas noticed tears starting to form at the corners of her soothing eyes." How long was I out?" Dylas asked her as he tried to sit up. He winced in pain at the effort, and looked at his side hazily. His side had been wrapped in bandages that were starting to soak up the blood that had come out of his wound at his sudden movement.
" A few days," she replied. The little girl suddenly noticed the blood on his bandages, and looked around the room worriedly for something. Finally, she spoke.
"I'll get Nancy!" She exclaimed as she headed out of the room.At the mention of the town nurse, he finally realized where he was. Someone had taken him to the clinic for treatment. He was lying in a plain, twin sized bed that was covered with plain white sheets. He had a needle attached to his arm, apparently injecting him with some kind of medicine. The walls were lined with shelves stocked with different kinds of medicinals inside bottles of all shapes and sizes. The room had one small window that was slightly ajar to let fresh air into the small, stuffy room.
The floor was made of some type of dark wood, which made the room feel slightly uncomfortable. At the foot of the bed was a clipboard, probably a chart of his progress thus far. Almost as quickly as she had left, the little girl entered the room with the blonde women wearing a pink and blue dress that was Nancy. She quickly came over to my bedside and felt his forehead" Your burning up," she stated worriedly. She went over to the other side of the room and came back with a wet towel. She placed it on his forehead, and proceeded to take of his now soaked bandages. The little girl stood next to Dylas's bedside, holding his hand tightly.
"I'm alright," he stated, with a forced smile on his face. She saw right through his act, however, and shook her head.
" You wouldn't be in this much pain if you were ok," she replied. The little girl sighed and gently stroked his silvery blue hair. At this moment, the girl felt more grown-up and mature than she had been before, almost as if she had gained a few years of age while he was gone. He weakly lifted his hand and touched her cheek.
" When I become well again," he started, " I have something to show you."
" I'll be here waiting for you," she replied, a little curiosity in her voice.
Suddenly, the world went dark around him, and he blacked out.A few days later, Dylas found himself released from the clinic with only a small gash where his serious injury had been only a few days before. He was sent home, but forced to stay in bed for most of the day except for the occasional walk around town. On this particular day, Dylas found himself heading to the castle to try out the gem he had found in the cave. When he knocked at the door that led to Frey's room, the little girl answered with a warm smile on her face.
"Welcome back!" She exclaimed as she gestured him into the room. The little girl brought up a chair for Dylas to sit in, and when he did, she knelt down in front of him.
He smiled gently at her and asked " I brought the object I had talked to you about when I was at the clinic," he said " may I show it to you?" She nodded vigorously in reply. He carefully took the gem out of his satchel and handed it to her. " I found this on my journey," he told her," it's said to help show ones true self, so I thought it might help you regain your memories."
"Really?!" She said eagerly. At his explanation, she gingerly took the gem into her small, delicate hands. The glowing light from the stone started to envelope her, making her skin shimmer. She started to turn into a light, ghostly figure. Slowly, the figure turned into the shape of a teenage girl. When the light faded, it revealed the girl's face. Dylas gasped in amazement. There, standing before him, was Frey. She looked older than she did two years ago, more mature
and possibly more beautiful."Dylas, my love!" Frey exclaimed, "you saved me!"
"Oh Frey, I've missed you so much!" Dylas cried tearfully as he leaned forward and proceeded to kiss her. She grabbed his shoulders tightly and kissed him back.
After a few moments, she managed to pull herself away and said, " I know you must have a lot of questions."
"Yes,I do," he started, " how did you come back to life, and why as a little girl?"
"As an Earthmate, I have a strong connection with the earth. When I started to die during the battle, the earth realized my distress and took my soul out of my body. It has been preserving it all of these years, and once it had gained enough power, it put me into a new body. Because of a lack of power, I couldn't be restored completely and put in my old body, so I had to settle as a little girl with no memories." she explained.
" About that legend," Dylas started," how did you know someone would read it in your diary and use it to save you?"
" Well, I didn't know for certain." She said with a bit of sarcasm in her voice. " But considering how nosy you are, I figured you would find it eventually."
He blushed at her comment. Frey noticed this, and let out a laugh. " It's alright, I shouldn't be complaining. After all, you did save me." She said earnestly.Dylas smiled at her, a smile full of pure happiness. He was so glad she was back. No matter what was to come next, he was certain of one thing. He and Frey would be able to face anything. He gently put his hand behind her head and gave her a loving gaze. Almost as if she knew what he was thinking, she smiled back.
"Together. Always." Frey whispered.
