I opened my eyes to see a beautiful girl looking down at me. I blink several times to get a better look at the girl I walked into.
"You alright?" Her voice was soft and clear. Unlike any voice I've heard before. It kinda reminds me of my mother when she would sing. Everyone always said she had the voice of an angel.
"Uh, Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." She reached her hand out and I decided to take it. She helped me up and I started brushing myself off from all the dirt. She bends down to pick something off the ground then hands it to me. I looked at it confused at first but then I realized it was the numbers. "Oh, thanks." I grabbed it from her small hands and placed it back in my pocket. I took a step back and looked at her as she brushed her legs off. Guess I knocked her over as well. Once she looked at me, I froze. It was her. The girl in my dream last night. I've never seen her before in my life until last night and now. Surely this is coincidence right? I didn't know what to say. I was just frozen.
"I'm Remy Tombs." I was still frozen. I don't know if she could tell I was or not. "And you are...?" I slightly shake my head to unfreeze myself and quickly try to recover from this madness.
"Sorry, I'm Grayson." I smile slightly trying to act like a normal human being.
"So I'm only going to get a first name from you? I promise I'm not a stalker. I'm not going to look up or anything." She laughs a little at her own joke. I laughed too and smiled looking at the ground.
"Cruz. Grayson Cruz." She starts laughing harder than last time. Her laughing made me laugh. It was strange. I haven't laughed or even smiled hardly at all for the past few months and somehow this girl made me laugh with just her laughing. "Why are you laughing? Is my last name really that bad?" She tries to catch her breath but could only calm herself down a little bit.
"No, no, no!" she laughs again. "It's just the way you said it!" and she begins laughing again.
"What? How did I say it!" I laugh a little while smiling at her. She stopped laughing and put both hands on her hips and began talking in a deeper voice.
"Cruz. Grayson Cruz." She starts laughing again and I stood there confused on why she was laughing. After a few seconds gone by I laughed a bit too. She just had one of those laughs that makes you want to laugh as well.
"Is that really how I sound to you?" She calms down and just starts smiling a lot.
"You're the one sounding like a secret agent in London." I chucked a little as I replayed the moment.
"That wasn't even that funny!" She smiles wide trying not to start laughing again. I just shake my head and smile. I guess she's one of those people who laughs at their own jokes, but she did make me laugh. It feels like I've known this girl for years, yet we just met less than a minute ago.
"So, where are you headed, Cruz." She asks with her hands on her backpack straps.
"To the place where teens go to learn about useless information and brainwash us to become doctors or lawyers. And from the looks of it, it looks like you're going to the same place."
"You are correct. NorthWood High actually." Once she said that, I snickered a little.
"No way you go there. That's where I go and I'm pretty sure I would have noticed you before." She smiles.
"I'm going to take that as a complement. Yes, I do indeed go there and it so happens to be my first day, so that would explain why you haven't noticed me."
"Well, you were going the wrong way. The school is this way." I pointed over her head in the direction of where the giant yellow goal post stood tall and proud. Our football team won many games on that field, we even got state champions last year. She looks up at my arm and follows my arm with her eyes until she turns all the way around. She pauses for a few seconds then spins back around on her heels facing me. She looked a little embarrassed as she had a small shy smile looking at the ground. I actually felt bad for correcting her. "But hey, what do I know? I'm just some random guy who wasn't looking where he was going." She laughed and looked back up at me with a small smile.
"You did seem very interested in that piece of paper."
"Oh, that? That's nothing. Just some notes I wrote down this morning." I don't want to get into the whole 'I had a dream about you last night even though I've never seen or met you before'. If she is the girl from my dream, then she must like books, right? She was at a bookstore of some sort. "Hey so, do you like books?" She tilts her head to her right side and gives me an odd look.
    "Books?" I snickered.
"Yeah. You know, those things with lots of words on hundreds of pages that somehow makes us smarter." She laughs and runs her fingers through her hair.
"You're a sarcastic one, aren't you?" She looked into my eyes and my heart skips a beat. Her dark brown eyes were beautiful. I knew she was pretty, but it's different once you see her in person. Everything about her seems like a dream, but she is. Live and in person standing before me. I snap out of my trance and quickly answer her.
"Yeah I tend to be sarcastic from time to time. Sorry about that." I said as I rubbed the back of my neck with my right hand.
"I like it." She smiles and I couldn't help but smile back. "Yeah I like to read. Why do you ask?"
"I just thought I might ask since I'm heading that way after school. There is one just down the road from the school."
She thinks about it for a bit and nods her head. "I could use a distraction after school. I'll meet you out front of the school." I smiled after she agreed.
"Alright then. Sounds good." She sighed and smiled.
"Well, shall we be off to the prison-like place known as high school?"
"Sure, why not." she started walking in the opposite direction and I just stood there waiting for her to realize she was going the wrong way.
"Aaaaand the school is this way." she says as she turns around and walks right past me. I laughed and started following her.
