The drive to school was quiet. Brandalynn drove, with all her stuff in the passenger seat, while Nathan and Jay both sat in the back. She didn't need them fighting over who got the front seat, so she stuck them both in the back, both boys against the idea of being near one another.
The radio wasn't even on.
That's how they definitely knew something was wrong.
"Brandy what's wrong?" Jay asked once again, but Brandalynn didn't respond as she sat focused on the road, with a single earbud in her ear.
"What do you think is wrong?" Nathan snapped at Jay. "Your @sshole of a brother was planning to rape her!"
"Shut Up."
Both boys fell silent at Brandalynn'sauthoritive command.
They passed the little café and within minutes got to school. Nathan left with only the words, "I'll see you later Brandy," and Jay stayed by her side.
Brandalynn walked without speaking as they passed by the group of Mandy, Layla, Danny, Micky, Jason, and Mike. Danny and Micky were giving eachother piggy backs rides, while like usual, Mandy and Layla were being their flirtatious selves.
I wonder how that bet is going... Brandalynn thought.
Seeing the group was almost like seeing strangers. Brandalynn had detached from the group for so long that she didn't really know them anymore. She didn't know their current opinions on things, current friendships, current crushes or gossip. They were just like every other group of people you see on campus. You know their name and face... but not THEM.
And maybe it hurt a little.
Maybe it was mutual.
Mandy watched silently as Brandalynn passed.
Look at her, she doesn't even give a care about us... Mandy thought.
"Right, Mandy?.... Mandy? Snickers? Blondie?" Jason snapped his fingers in front of Mandy's face. "You okay?"
"I'm fine and I told you, don't call me Blondie!" Mandy whacked Jason.
"Sorry, Snicks," Jason teased.
"Whatever," Mandy rolled her eyes.
Layla was making kissy noises, as if beckoning Mandy and Jason too.
"Stop it Layla!" Mandy punched the girl in the arm.
Layla had been doing that recently now. She'd always comment on how Mandy and Jason should "get together already" or how they'd be a "perfect match" or even going as far as "making a new kind of candy" IF you know what I mean...
But when Layla wasn't teasing Mandy about her "Jason Situation", then she'd daydream and talk nonstop about Mike. "Mike this" and "Mike that". It was seriously getting annoying.
And cheesy.
Ever since they started making nicknames for one another, thanks to Jen, things just got cheesier and cheesier. For example, one night, Layla and Mandy crashed with Mike and Jason at Mandy's house, and they playing some classic Super Smash Bros. on Mandy's brother's Wii.
"I'll smoke all of you! I'm beast at this game!" Jason taunted.
"In your wet dreams bro!" Mike laughed.
"Who sould I be?" Layla asked, totally new to the game and old system.
"I'm Link! I call it!" Mandy yelled.
"KIRBY!" Jason screeched.
"MARIO!" Mike exclaimed.
"Hey Layla, since Mike's name is Mike, you should be Ike. Mike n Ike? Ha!" Jason laughed.
