"Of course not. We need to move. How many buildings are left, Justin?"
"We can cut it down to the big two. If we split up, we can cover them and meet up and get the hell outta here." Justin had finally gotten out of his sleeping bag and was actually helping clean up.
"Fine. How are we splitting?" Nathan was ready to be done. They were making good time despite all the bickering. Two or three weeks cut down into two or three days.
"It's on the other side of town, I'll go hit the weapons stores with Jackson. Brent." Justin stared him down. "Will go with you to the mall. We'll meet you there."
"Alright. Then we can be done. Go back with our loot." He couldn't wait to see Becca again. He had kept his eye out and hadn't seen anything yet, but he was certain there would be a safe place somewhere in the city, as long as they could clear out the cannibals. If not the city, there were plenty of cars to fix up and take to the next one.
"The problem is getting there. Obviously we won't all fit in the car, it's going to cause some ruckus, and it's a 15 minute drive in and of itself."
"Then what the hell do we do?"
"Well co-captain, got any ideas?" Justin snapped.
"Drive to the nearest place, some of us can scout on top of the car. Two get dropped off and the other two head to the next place. The two farthest come back to pick up the first two. We might find a bigger car on the road and fix it if there's daylight enough and transfer everything."
"Fine. We'll drive you to the mall, then we'll hit a few weapons places nearby then come back for you. Sound good?" He looked to Jackson and Brent. They both nodded, Brent a little more hesitant.
"Good. Jackson and Nathan, check a few more rooms for bedding and blankets, while Brent and I get the car ready and scout outside." He grabbed the sleeping bags from the ground. Jackson and Nathan left the room and climbed the stairs deeper into the building, leaving Brent and Justin alone again.
"See how things just fall into place?" They leave the room. Justin stepped over the body and walked down the hall. Brent scowled and muttered under his breath.
"Fuck you, Justin." He wasn't going to go through with the plan.
"What was that?"
"You know exactly what I said, Justin."
"Now Brent, this is important. Let's all get along. It's going to be a great day."
"For you."
"Oh most definitely." They arrived on the first floor and he put the sleeping bags in the car. "Now, you decide what kind of day it's going to be for you. I promise, the guilt doesn't matter. It's for a good cause." He put a hand on Brent's shoulder. Brent shrugged it off.
"Yeah, whatever you say Justin."
"He's a monster. Just picture him as a zombie. Besides you don't even have to kill him. Just make it easier for me."
"Mhm." Brent was done talking. He still wasn't going through with helping kill Nathan. He didn't do anything wrong, not directly, and it wasn't up to William and Justin to be judge, jury, and executioner.
Justin messed around with their loot, leaving space for two in the car, then tying a rope to the top of the car for two to sit securely. Nathan and Jackson came back with a couple blankets, just enough to top off the load.
"Are we all set? I'll drive. Nathan and Brent, on the roof, we'll drive you to the mall and drop you off." They both climbed on the roof, grabbing the rope for security. Justin and Jackson climbed into the car. Justin started the engine and they drove off slowly.
