Sherla's POV:

We've been hunting Kurins all around the city. Sometimes, I go alone and there are also times when the 4 of us attend.

It's been a month since father told us about Kurins' origin. One month has passed since I knew that Kurins bring 'extraoridinary pain'.

"The two of you will go out in a mission, Sherla and Jake. We have detected a few Kurins in Seria Forest. Be careful, okay?" Father said. I nodded and looked at Jake who was beside me. He still doesn't have emotions, huh?

Jake also nodded and Father went somewhere. I've never paired with Jake before. "Good luck to us." I said after I stood up. He just smiled fakely and went to his room. Tsk. I can't do anything about his attitude, can I?

----

SERIA FOREST

It's already evening but we still haven't spotted a single Kurin. Jake was just straightly staring at the bonfire. This is so awkward for no one's even talking.

"I wonder what would it be like to be bitten by Kurins." I unconciously said to myself because of the boredom.

And then Jake spoke in front of me. "It hurts, of course." I turned at him who's now looking at me too.

He continued "You'll hear the victim's scream full of pain and fear. It brings chill to your spine and is unpleasant to hear. And you know what hurts more?" He keeps a poker face but his eyes were filled with sadness. I don't understand. I asked about how it feels to be a victim yet he answered how it felt to watch someone getting victimized.

"It hurts when you're just in front, watching, as the Kurins devour the people you were supposed to save."

Tears begun to run down his face without him noticing. "Jake?" I uttered. He was surprised and came back to his senses wiping his tears away as he realized.

"Is something the matter?" I asked. "No. It's nothing." He answered. "But why were you crying?" I couldn't prevent myself from asking questions for I am really curious. "The dust just went inside my eye, that's why." That trick is so freaking old. I can tell that he's lying. But I can't force him to tell me, right? He also needs privacy.

---

Jack's POV:

I looked at Jefferson who had walked towards me. "Is something wrong?" I asked. "Why did you do that?" He said.

"Did what?" I replied acting like I don't know what he's talking about. "Why did you assign Jake to that forest? It could have been me!" He said with a serious tone. "He needs to do that for him to overcome the pain that he can't forget 'til now." Jefferson strongly opposed me with just the look in his eyes.

"Don't try to go there, he has Sherla. Nothing will go wrong, trust me. He'll overcome this. Jake has to avenge his parents' death."

MORNING:

Sherla's POV:

I heard that sound again so I readied my sword.

"Here they come." Jake said letting out a smirk. He then grabbed his guns.

We were surrounded by Kurins about 10 in quantity. One by one, we killed them. I am slowly getting used to this.

We safely finished them all off without gaining any wounds. "Are we done here?" As soon as I spoke, I heard a heavy sound as the  ground shook making the birds fly away.

"I don't think so." Jake said as he took his position.

A very big Kurin walked towards us. It's the biggest one I have seen yet. I soon turned to Jake who uttered the words "We meet again, big fella." He had grudge in his eyes.
