Lucas was exhausted from running.

Literally, exhausted as he bound up the steps to his bosses office. Lucas was having one of "those" mornings.

The kind where spilling coffee on your pants, and dropping your cereal bowl after you stub your toe on a chair. That's the kind of morning Lucas was having this morning and it wasn't getting any better as he stumbled in front of his boss.

"Late again, I see," his boss mumbled under his breath as he stared at his employee who was panting and smelled strongly of black coffee.

"Sorry sir, it was an accident." Lucas said nervously as he sat down.

"Anyways you are one if not my most successful editors that work for me." His boss said firmly as he leaned back in his chair.

Lucas never got used to his office smelling like cheap cologne or the fact that his boss was dating his secretary. He waited for his boss to continue but he didn't.

"Oh-um thank you, sir." He replied with a slight cough.

"Yes well, because of this there is an author that has something in common with you. Her name is Fletcher Irwin and she is a new upcoming author, and I want to publish her. I need you to go edit her book, give some notes, you know do your job." He said as he folded his hands on his lap.

"Okay but what do I have in common with her?" Lucas questioned slightly almost afraid of his bosses reaction.

"That's partly why I picked you for her. She lives in Longfellow Falls, Vermont where your from. So I thought you could go back to your hometown and visit this girl and get her published." His boss said handing him a packet with her information on it as well as transcript of her book.

Lucas took the packet slowly as his heart started racing. He hadn't been to his hometown since he was nineteen. As a twenty five year old now, he didn't have any desire.

There was to much baggage that he left in Longfellow Falls, and none he wanted to unpack. His mother always came to New York for holidays but he never went there.

"Is there any other assignment that I can do?" Lucas asked before really thinking.

"Look I have let these late mornings, and pathetic work hours slide Mr. King. I suggest that you do the assignments I give you or your out of a job." He said with a huff.

Lucas worked here for two years right after he graduated. He knew that he would have been fired already if it wasn't for how good he was at his job when he did it.

"Sir this brings up things I don't want to think about. I'll edit an other transcript, any other author but please not this one." Lucas practically begged, he was ready to get on his knees if it meant he didn't have to go home.

He leaned over his desk with his hands folded and sighed. His boss was the kind type until you did something he didn't like. Then he made your life hell. Lucas was almost knowing he was going to be unemployed in the next ten seconds.

"Get on a plane later tonight, and get to Vermont. Edit the book and bring back a damn masterpiece. Go now and if you don't you can pack right now and leave." He said, and pointed his finger at the door.

"I'll be in Vermont hopefully tomorrow morning." Lucas mumbled slightly with a sigh.

His boss didn't say anything as Lucas left with a distressed look on his face.

Lucas couldn't focus for the rest of his work hours. He couldn't stop thinking about home. Home isn't something he thought about, ever but now he couldn't escape it.
