The summer breeze blew through Lucas's hair as he laid on the grass looking at the sky. The sun was shadowed by some clouds. The grass felt slightly damp from morning dew as his fingers danced across the tips.
He stared at the clouds wondering what it would feel like to touch them. He noticed rustling from the trees but figured it was a bird or a rabbit. He sat up once or twice but then laid back down.
He drank his cold Coke that he got on very few occasions. The only reason his mother let him have one now is because he aced his sophomore year exams.
Sixteen was the like the goal age most kids were dying to reach. As if it held some anomaly of life that only sixteen year old's could uncover. However, it didn't.
He felt just the same. Just as oddly satisfied with being alone. Lucas had a few friends that he hung out with from time to time but in the end, he always preferred to sit by himself at lunch while reading.
Books were like this escape for him. Reality was a cruel headspace to live in 24/7 so Lucas avoided it as much as possible. Dodging the bullet of reality that might hit him to hard. Books were the places he hid in, and no one had ever found him.
Not yet at least.
The rustling continued and Lucas jumped up at that. The he saw a figure jump and run when Lucas laid eyes on him. Lucas started sprinting after the person hoping to find out why Lucas was this kid's sudden interest.
The only glance Lucas got at this stranger was seeing brown curls that bounced as the stranger ran. The stranger looked over his shoulder once and Lucas saw these captivating grey eyes. He could tell it was a boy, probably not that much older then him, maybe younger. The young boy ran a different path that Lucas didn't know, so he didn't follow.
He panted trying to catch his breath as he walked back to his regular path. From the glance he got, the stranger had curiosity on his face with a little mischievous grin as well. Lucas knew one thing, he didn't have time for stalkers.
Later that night, he wrote a diary entry about the mysterious boy who seemed to be watching him closely for the past week. He didn't recognize him from school, he didn't recognize him from around town; he was just a stranger.
A beautiful one at that.
The boys smirk stuck in Lucas's head through the entire next week. Every time he went to the clearing he payed close attention the woods surrounding him, and watched for any movement.
Nothing happened, not until the second week of June at least.
Lucas was laying in the grass falling in and out of sleep until he heard rustling. He jumped up and saw a figure wearing and pink shirt and bright blue skinny jeans.
Lucas ran after him like last time except this time he caught him. He grabbed his wrist and pulled him backwards.
"You probably shouldn't grab people like that," he pouted as he snatched his wrist back.
"You probably shouldn't spy on people." Lucas retorted and folded his arms.
"That's fair." The strange boy shot back quickly.
Lucas studied him with instant curiosity. His brown curls reached his cheekbones, and his grey eyes were wild with adrenaline.
His skin glistened because of the humidity of summer, and his lips were shaped perfectly with a cherry tint. He wondered what they would taste like.
Lucas quickly pushed down these thoughts of a total stranger and took a couple steps back.
"Why were you following me?"
