The door clicked open as Shabina finished with the lock picking. Now that's more like it, she had already had the time to worry about the possibility that it might not work.
She opened the door and locked it behind her.

The room was full of stolen accesories, but the most valuable one, at least to Shabinas knowledge was the one in the middle. A three carat blue diamond worth 5.3 million.
The diamond was kept on a pedestal behind a glass cover.

Shabina looked around. There was a small glass locker right next to the door that had a button inside of it. Turn off the alarm system was written on the glass. Of course the locker was still locked, it was out in the open like that after all so why wouldn't it be?

"Heyy... Shabes" Simons disembodied voice said to Shabinas ear.
She pressed the button to unmute the microphone again.
"What?" She asked. Him calling her Shabes wasn't anything out of the ordinary but his tone and long "heyyy" at the beginging didn't sound promising.
"So I confirmed that she is in fact Valerie, but..." He said.
"But what?"
"She knows I'm with SOD" he said.
"What? How did that happen?" Shabina would have raised her voice if she wasn't currently trying to stay quiet.
"She probably read my mind. What are you going do, to stop me for thinking?"
"Yes" she retorted.
"Also she's going upstairs right now" Simon continued.
Shabina almost said "what" again for the fourth time in a row but she settled for sighing, rubbing her eye lids and just saying Jesus Christ.
She started looking around for a hiding spot. The closet was the closest possible one near her so she slided the door open and hid.
Valerie may not be going to this exact room but better be safe than sorry. But why wouldn't she come here? She was here for the diamond after all.
Shabina took the gun out of the holder she had hid under her jacket and made sure it was loaded. Then she got out her handcuffs. This was going to be easy.

There was something off about that "drunk" guy. First he's passed out and everyone is gathered around him, the next moment he's fine. He was still "drunk" but Valerie could tell that he was pretending.

She was walking up the stairs holding the hosts, Jeffreys hand, resisting the urge to let go. It's not that he was ugly, he was actually quite handsome despite being older than what Valerie would usually prefer, it was just his douchy personality and how he behaved around her that set her off.

He was walking a few steps ahead of her talking about something, she wouldn't know, she wasn't listening. Valerie had only one thing in her mind now, well... two. The other one was that diamond and how to steal it, the other one was that cute guy down stairs. Hope he doesn't begome too big of an obstacle for her.

Jeffrey had already started walking towards the bedroom but Valerie stopped and let go of his hand.
"Remember our agreement, Mr. Nelson" She said.
Jeffrey turned around to look at her.
"Oh, of course. How could I forgot" he said and started walking towards the opposite direction.

Valerie followed him not really listening to what he was saying after that. He got the keys out of his pocket and opened the door.

The diamond wasn't the only thing in the room but it was the only thing that she paid attention to.
She leaned in to take a closer look to really admire it. Diamonds and other gemstones were one of her niche interests. Not because they were pretty, that's not to say that they aren't, but she was more interested about their origin, their chemistry, their structure.
"May I?" She asked and turned to look at Jeffrey.
"Wait just a second dear" he said and got the keys out of his pocket again. He walked up to the small glass locker next to the door and opened it. After that he pressed the button.
"Go on" he said.
Valerie lifted the glass cover and cautiously put it on the floor.
Then she carefully took the diamond in her hands and to just adore it for a few seconds... maybe a minute if she had the time.

"Is this type IIb?" She asked.
"What now?" Jeffrey titled his head slightly.
"I mean, does it contain any nitrogen?" She questioned.
"...yes?" He said clearly not sure about the answer.
"Well then it's not type IIb" she said and put the diamond down. Even though she knew that his answer was most likely wrong. Why even have a diamond if you don't care about it?
"You keep saying that this is worth 5.3 million, correct?" Valerie asked to verify his claims.
"That's at least that's how much I paid for it" Jeffrey bragged. "Paid", yeah right.
Valerie cringed "if it's not type IIb like you said... I hate to break it to you but you were scammed" She told him.
Jeffrey looked at her for a few seconds like his brain was slowly procressing the converstation they had just had. After that his face lit up and he loudly exclaimed:
"I mean of coooourse it doesn't have any... nitrogen in it! I was just messing with you!"

"...sure" Valerie said in a tone of voice that heavily implied she wasn't bying thay last part. She picked up the diamond again. You don't need to be smart to realize that he still had no idea what he was talking about but this seemed to be a case that Valerie liked to call "using the wrong formula for a math problem but getting the right answer anyway". No blue diamond could have a color this deeb if it contained even the slightest amount of nitrogen.

"Can we now get to business?" Jeffrey said like he was already bored out of his mind trying to get this diamond part over with.

"Patience, everything good will come due time" Valerie said not taking her eyes off the gem in her hands. How could she not be interested? The blue color comes from traces of boron, a chemical that's entirely produced by cosmic ray spallation, the x-process if you will, and supernovas. That's what made them so rare and there by one of the most expensive gemstones on earth. It's ultimate melting point is about 4,027° Celsius which means it's-
Valerie happenned to glance in Jeffreys direction again which stopped her train of thought.
"Alright fine, let's get this over with" she sighed and put the diamond down before placing the glass cover back on to protect it.

Such a shame she wasn't stealing it for herself. The mafia had paid her money just to steal it for them. Specifically the mafia Jeffrey was working with, not in, with. She didn't ask too many questions but she figured that he had probably done or said something that pissed someone important off so now they were just fucking with him. Nothing too bad to get himself killed but nothing too mild for them to just ignore it.

As they left the room she took note of the fact that Jeffrey never put the alarm system back on.
