Brandon would be hosting the party tonight. His parents already bought him his mansion at the top of a mountain that hovered over the beach as a graduating gift. The mansion has glass windows that started from the floor and reached up to the ceiling, and his paintings scattered around the white walls. Brandon wasn't like most guys, he valued things like relationships and art over anything else. He was the scape goat out of a group of boys, which made him stand out. We've had a thing ever since the second week of school of freshmen year in our theatre class. Turned out, we both got the leads in our school show, but we both hated the class with a passion. True acting right there.
It seemed like the majority of the people from our class was there just by the looks of the fifteen cars parked along the street. I walked in and the smell of pot mixed into the summer air. People were crowding around each other playing beer pong and having chugging contests, some were playing video games on the thirty two inch plasma tv, and others were dancing.
At our school everyone hung out together, we were kind of the exceptional drop out school, but all of us volunteered to go. It was originally a public school but then they tried changing it into a magnet school. People left as a result so they gave the kids who would volunteer kind of a "half scholarship" is what they called it, and since the majority of us had wealthy families we contributed to the school with supplies and it turned out to be better than most of the schools here.
I made my way further down the hall, into the back room. I spotted Naomi and her bright red hair. She ran up to me, gave me a hug and offered me a drink. I took the glass as she pulled me over to where Brandon, Rylan and Adelyn were huddled.
Brandon yelled over the music,
"Hey Quinn! I've been waiting for you to show up, you look stunning." He finished with pressing the cigarette up to his lips.
I said, "Thanks" with a huge smile on my face.
Rylan got up from the couch and motioned for me to sit next to Brandon. Adelyn got the bong out and Rylan went to the kitchen to get a few drinks and his pipe.
Tonight was going to be my last night with everybody I would miss the most. We sat and talked about what we plan on doing for the first week of summer and of course everything we planned to do when we would meet over break. I finally told Naomi I was planning on going to New York. When she found out she was surprisingly way more excited than I thought she would be because she was also going to be there for a couple weeks before school would start back up again.
We passed around the pipe as Brandon hogged the bong. Rylan took his share of telling stories after the drinks got to him and then eventually Adelyn disappeared with her boyfriend shes been dating since junior year.
It was 11:13 and some people already left. Brandon took me to his room so we could have our time together before I left on Monday.
Our relationship was "just friends with benefits" although everyone thought we were dating or wanted us too. We purposely didn't commit ourselves to each other because we both knew I wanted to move and he was stuck here for college. He also has his whole career lied out in front of him since his dad owns the citys' hospital. We agreed on the occasional visits and switching off with "who's flying out this time" but we can't accept the fact that we won't see each other for god knows how long.
It was 1 am and I remembered that my dad said I couldn't be out late. I gathered my clothes from the side of Brandons' bed. He woke up and walked me to the door.
"Bye..I'm gonna miss you, a lot." I hugged him as tight as I could before he opened the door. I stepped out and then jokingly said,
"Have fun cleaning up the party babe."
He said, "Oh yeah! Definitely looking forward to that." As he looked behind him and saw the cups spilt everywhere and the broken vodka bottles.
Before I left, he grabbed me and kissed me, saying,
"I love you."
He never said that before and now he has to say it the day before I get on a plane flying across the country.
Kissing him slowly with tears filling my eyes, I say it too. I pushed him away but still leaning in to kiss him I tried to walk away. He stepped back and gave me one last hug and whispered,
"And I mean it."
We let go and I walked to my car, heading home.
