Rose and I shared a room. It had been three days since Rose got here. It was a Monday and the newspaper was in. I got the first turn to look at it. When I saw the headline my stomach flipped.

Missing!
Rose Jerryburd and
James flipperstone
The children are around age 12. Rose is a blonde that was wearing a pink shirt and black sweatpants at the time of her disappearance. James has dark brown hair and wore a blue shirt with the word nerd on it. He had on blue jeans on. If you have any information about these children call crime stoppers.

I stared at the words. Tears filled my eyes at the thought of my parents. They are not even my real parents, but I love then like I love life. My tears splotched the paper. Rose came over to me and
looked at the article. She stood up and covered her face with her hands. I saw tears flow from her eyes an she sat on the ground. By now everyone was looking at Rose and I. Jane skunked out from a corner and went to Rose. I went over to her and wiped my eyes in my sleeve.

"Rose....are you ok?" Rose shook her head no and sobbed even harder.
"Let's get you to your room. You to James." I was letting the tears flow freely from my eyes. Jane helped Rose up and held her close.
"Oh Rose..."

We walked in silence only broken by the sounds of Rose's sobs. I sat on my bed and looked at the quilt. Jane sat Rose on her bed.
"Do you want to lay down for a wile?" Jane had concern in her voice.
"Y-yes...James can you stay for a s-second?"
"Yes."

Once Jane left Rose looked up from her hands. Her face was red from crying. She sniffled occasionally.
"The thing is...it hit me hard...the article...you know?" She kept sniffling.
"You may not know this but..."
"We're adopted." She looked at me with surprise.
"And you know that...we're...brother and...sister?"
"Yes."
"For how long?" She started to sniffle less and less.
"Honestly...two days." She laughed and I smiled.

"Today you start your training together." Rose and I stood in front of slender man. We looked at each other. Surprise was on Rose's face. I looked at slender man and than at Rose.
"You..." He pointed at Rose. "Will learn to use your power."
"And you..." He pointed at me. "Will help her."

Rose was tied in a chair five feet away from a table with a glass of water on it. I stood behind the desk on the opposite side of Rose. Her task was to retrieve the water off of the desk. She closed her eyes and slouched forward. The lights dimmed and shadows appeared from behind Rose. They reached out to the water and held it in their grasp. Rose opened her eyes and looked at the glass. She let out a small gasp as the tendrils brought the glass to her lips. She sipped the liquid. Bliss crossed her face.

She screamed and dropped the half empty glass. The tendrils grew and grew. The dark expanded and engulfed the room in a swirling vortex of doom.
"The dark!!! It's to strong!!! No no no!"

Rose slumped onto the ground with the chair still tied to her. She wept. Her tears puddled on the floor with the water from the glass. I ran to aid her from the chair.

"T-thanks James." I held her close and she whispered something to me.

"I-I saw mom and dad...."
