I woke up. Paralyzed, I couldn't move my own body.

Scared. The feeling of dread filled my mind even though I knew it was temporary, even though it would only last for 5 seconds.

A tear ran down from the corner of my beautiful blue eye.

Do you ever wake up at night not knowing if it is a nightmare or reality?
Finally, I felt the warmth of the sun which was only possible to feel if I was in reality. I went down to the kitchen and saw my mother cooking food as usual and my dad reading TDH.

"The Daily Happen" The daily happenings or the newspaper. So he was reading a newspaper about declined women's rights amendment by the privy council of the queen. Our queen Celest is young and unmarried she holds most of the power in the council but for some reason gives it to Nobel MEN in her council. She might be the only woman that I have heard of who has any real power. She is unwed as she is 16 like me. She did not go to finishing school but has private tutors. And she will be wed when she is 18 like any other girl.

My brother was not awake yet. I took my apron down from the hooks. And I helped my mother set the table. As I was meant to do. The saddest thing is that I always help her and NO ONE notices anything. Whereas my brother does nothing except eat, sleep and go to Learning school and well invite his lady friends over. Like what is up with that. I am not allowed to bring any friends let alone boys. Well, there are no boys in my school and except my brother, I do not know anyone from learning school.

I go to finishing school. this school was one especially for girls where they train us to be better wives, daughters, and sisters.
They teach us to obey, do hard work, and never complain.
Whereas it looks like in learning school it seems they should teach the boys only that.
I do realize I cannot say all this to anyone. Father will be angry and mother disappointed.

Not that you care.
That's my head speaking, just in case you are wondering.

I pack lunch for my brother, arrange things, and kept them where they were before. "Good morning everyone," My brother said as he had a Final exam today so I curiously asked "Brother don't you have your final exam today?"

"Yes I do, that's the reason I am so chipper" he replied looking at his bowl of cereal. He had black hair like mine. Just styled however he wants whereas mine are always supposed to be in a braid as it looks tidier. If you ask me it looks more boring.I mean I know that he is graduating this year. I was just trying to make good conversation. But so am I from finishing school. So I'm 16 years old. Yeah, that's it. I'm off to school.

"Go change your clothes," said my mother politely. And so I did. My clothes were plain brown because brown is a practical color. Only married women are allowed other colors if their husband wishes them so. I know it's ridiculous but that's the way it always has been. And for our sakes, we have to keep our heads down and be quiet. As children should be seen not heard.

My brother takes me in an open carriage and drops me off at my school and then goes to his school. 'Unmarried women should not be seen traveling alone' I can almost hear my teacher saying those words.

When I reach my school I see my friends, well classmates silently going inside the school. The school was nothing but a group of rooms with many windows a blackboard and seats for children. I usually sit in the third row with my friend Mary Bennett. She has strawberry blond hair and extremely soft features. She indeed looks like a princess. She has an inborn ability for all these wify types of things. And she is kind enough to teach me as our teachers are useless and instead of teaching us they just judge us humiliate us and think that we will somehow learn from it.

The class was silent as we were meant to revise the last lesson until our teacher comes, but as you know I am not really into all these things so I started talking to Mary. Apparently she has a crush on my brother. Eww
"So how is everything at home ?" She asked innocently but I know her enough to know who she was asking about.

" hmm, everything is fine, even my brother" I whispered as we were not to talk about boys until graduation. But that's hardly the reason to stop me and Mary from talking about them. " by the way, it's really off-topic I don't even like him anymore. He never notices me, only girls like Lilly" she said eyeing Lilly. She was a visible annoyance. Like you can literally see on her face that she is not a good person for some reason her face is so annoying and seeing her in my house doesn't make it easier . I guess I have to talk about it with my brother. Though he will ignore my words..... but still it's worth a try.

The rest of the school time was ordinary. Nothing new happened, our teacher spoke we listened, she asked few questions a few times and I channeled my inner Mary and swerved them.

When school got over we went to the washroom together as we are not supposed to be alone anywhere.
I know it's kind of strange for people to go to the washroom together but it's pretty common between girls.

On the way to the washroom, we decided to take a long way and go through the outside of the school instead of inside.
But just as soon as we made the turn we regretted it. We saw two boys approaching us, smiling. Mary tightened her grip around my arm, signaling that she is scared.

They started checking us out and passing comments. When they were close enough to make out their faces, I realized they were around 18 years old and had a heavy built. One was shorter and another towering tall like 6'3". I maintained my calm and walked in a straight line with confidence and ignoring them. Pretending they are not even there but then they blocked or way. and still, I remained calm because if I freak out then Mary will definitely freak out.

The shorter one stopped for a sec, shocked, the other took this in notice and said "come on Sam they are just girls, that don't bite"
"I know paul but her brother does more than bite" he replied
"And who might be her brother," he asked looking at him.
"Damian Sparks" he said like stating the obvious.

This made the other hesitate a little.
This gave me a possibility to almost escape. I tugged mary's hand and signaled her to run when I say so.
And I saw the perfect moment to run but Paul was fast and he slammed into Mary and she fell to the ground.
" But this one is not related to him .. Now is she?" He said taking a step closer to her ,touching her face. She looked at me and was scared and a tear rolling down from her cheeks.

And that was it, the threshold of my patience and ladylike behavior. I spun on my heels and twisted the very hand that touched my best friend. How the hell did he dare.
He winced painfully and His partner came at me. I looked at him with deadly eyes and dared him to interfere. Thankfully he stopped and then I knew this was the chance, I eyed Mary to get up and run, run like hell is after her. She got my signal and got up and started to walk towards me.

"If you ever try that again, I swear it will be the last laugh you ever have" I said when Mary was behind me. I took her hand and started walking, this time fast, wanting to get away as far as I can from them.

Just as I took a sigh of relief......
