McDonald's wasn't eventful. It never is. It's just Ann ordering 20 chicken nuggets, her and Dan eat them all without offering Jay and I any, and then we go back so Jay and I can get separate ice creams.

The same shit. All the time. Never anything new.

Or I thought.

Monday rolls around. Dan, Jay, and I are all in the same dorm room, so Dan and I always walk to our Literature class together. But today was different. Today wasn't just any Monday- no- today was the start of a new year at college.

I didn't want to go to this school- I never have- but again, it's a "can't afford to go to art school and it's too far" thing.

"So.. sucks that you won Monopoly on Saturday. That's probably gonna be our last game for awhile." Dan says while we walk across campus.

"What do you mean?" I ask. We play Monopoly all the time. And then go to McDonald's, and then go back an hour later again.

"Ann and I got in a big fight last night... she asked if she could check my phone and I asked why she needed to. Why she's so overprotective all the time." He mumbles.

I stop for a moment (out of shock) and then realize and keep moving. I don't think Dan notices.

"You know.. it's all because-"

He cuts me off. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's because I got drunk and kissed Lydia Scotchman. I'm sorry, I didn't know it was that big of a deal."

I sigh. "Well... I was gonna say it's because she cares about you, but...."

"If she cared about me wouldn't she trust me? Anyways, we're here now." He says as we appear in front of the door way.

"Deep breaths." I say to Dan. I'm not actually saying it to Dan.

I'm saying it to myself.

I quickly scan the room as Dan and I make our way to the back. (I don't know how colleges work) All of the faces look the same, pretty much, a couple of newbies, but mostly the same.

I'm surprised when Dan sits by someone. I gesture to him frantically that I'm afraid of human interaction, but he just taps the seat beside me.

When I sit down, he whispers "I don't think he's paying attention to anything anyways. He seems wrapped up in whatever he's doing on his computer. Plus this is where we sat last year."

I give in and open up my textbook.

After class, Dan tells me that he has to drop something off to one of his professors.

"Do you want me to come with? Or just go home?" I ask.

"Don't you wanna be with Jay all the time? Why don't you just go home and talk to him. Plus this is kind of personal anyways." He says as we walk out of the building our class was in.

"Oh, yeah, okay. Cya later then?" I say as we start to split paths.

"Yup! Bye Hosuh."
