Delilah

We were all squeezed into Felix's annoyingly small car. I was aware I was sitting where Tayla had been sitting when we left the car here.
There was even a chocolate wrapper in the door that she had been eating. She loved chocolate.
It was quite dampening my mood and ash was chatting with ken while Felix focused on driving.
"You okay?" Ash said quietly.
I shook my head but smiled. She squeezed my hand and I appreciated it.
"Where are we gonna stop?" Felix asked.
"Do you remember where your house is?" I asked.
"The one in Brighton?" He asked.
"No, the one a couple hours from here. Your latest one," I said.
He squinted as he tried to remember.
"Does it have a staircase?" He asked. I nodded.
"Yeah yeah, 45 Apple Court," I said.
"Apple court?" He asked.
"It's nicer than where you lived before that," I rolled my eyes.
I directed him back to his house and left them in the car. He was the least experienced and ken only had one arm and ash was a kid so I had to go in first.
I limped to the Front door. Trying to forget carrying Tayla's oxygen tank down the stairs for her. Trying to forget her. Trying to forget her. I wish I was in Felix's position.
I wouldn't make him come here if he remembered her.
I told them I went on to check for threats. That was partly true but I came in here to hide evidence of Tayla.
It's horrible and it makes me a bad person and- I was thinking all of this so I didn't have time to wonder why the glass doors leading to the porch where smashed in and as I turned into her bedroom I didn't see the zombie that jumped onto my back.
I cried out in surprise as it pinned me to the floor and snapped at my neck. I managed to shove him off but he jumped back on and went at my face. His spit flew and I think some went in my mouth.
His knee went into my shin and I screamed and my head flew back exposing my neck. His teeth scraped my skin before something forced him off me. I looked over and there was an arrow sticking out of his face.
He was definitely dead.
I quickly scrambled to sit up and tugged the needle out of its case on my belt and shoved it in my arm. Not worrying about who ever shot that. Worrying about myself because I can take a fucking break for 12 seconds. But when those twelve seconds are up theres a tall girl in the doorway aiming a second arrow at my head. She wore what looked like some sort of armoured and padded leggings and a black tight leather jacket. She had a sharp black bob and piercing blue eyes.
She peered down her long white nose at me but she only looked about 20.
"Great. I saved a fucking drug addict, you're not hallucinating," she spoke loudly and clearly like I couldn't understand her swedish accent.
"It's not drugs," I growled. "It's a fucking cure because that fucker bit me," I showed her the scratches on my neck and got to my feet. She took a few steps back. I don't blame her.
"You have a cure?" She asked.
"Am I trying to eat you right now?"
"Okay sorry. I just didn't know there was one," she apologised.
"Thank you, for saving me. But what are you doing in my house?" I asked.
"Your house? I've inhabited this area for two months buddy and I haven't seen anything like you. This place has been deserted for years," she pointed out.
"Yeah well it was my ex boyfriends house," I said.
"Well I'm sorry Hun but that does not make this place yours," she readjusted her arrow. "Now leave," she growled.
"Hey, I'm sorry. My names Cry. We just flew from the States. We just need somewhere to crash before we figure out what to do, we're not a threat and we have supplies," I said. Noticing how thin she was. She shifted uncomfortably.
"How do I know I can trust you?"
"You don't. But I'm no threat to you, I promise, honestly take a look at who 'we' are. A guy with one arm. A guy who is completely helpless because he doesn't remember a damn thing from the past 6 years and a twelve year old girl," I laughed.
"Okay but bring them in one by one," she said.
"What's your name?" I asked first.
"Delilah," she said.
"Don't disappear," I said and walked out the door. They immediately sensed something was up.
Maybe it was the blood running down my neck and chest. It looked dramatic on my white tee shirt.
"Who's in there?" Ken asked.
"A scared girl called Delilah. Come on one by one. Be completely calm because she saved my life," I explained and pulled ken out first.
We walked up the stairs and my hand was on his only arm.
I pulled him through and we stopped two meters from Delilah.
"How did you get a bow?" He asked.
"How did you lose your arm?" She countered.
"How did you get out of Sweden?" He asked.
"How did you get out of Texas?" She countered again.
"Actually I'm fro-"
"So you guys have heaps to chat about," I clapped him on the back and went to get ash.
"Why don't you take him?" She asked.
"You kidding me? There's no way I'm leaving you alone," I said and she scowled.
"I can take care of myself," she shook my arm off her and walked ahead of me.
Delilah drew her bow tighter when she saw her.
"Hey, it's alright. This is Ash. That's Ken. This is Delilah," I introduced them.
"Where'd you get the bow?" Ash asked and I was done.
I limped back to the car and opened the door for him and helped him out.
"Cry I lost my memory. Not my ability to hop out of a car," he criticised. It hurt.
"I'm sorry," I apologised again.
"Why are you always saying sorry?" He asked.
"Because I am," he didn't argue with that.
"This house," he stopped when we reached the door.
"Do I have kids?" He frowned.
I laughed.
"Are you old enough to have kids?" I awkwardly avoided the question.
"I remember two teenagers. Here. I was taking them to school," he said.
"You helped out at a center in town which helped teens," I didn't really lie.
"Was one of them called Alex?" He asked.
I can't believe he remembered Alex but not Tayla.
