I am a hypocrite. Completely and utterly a massive hypocrite.
All day I can diss people who pretend but maybe I'm just pretending.
I just use it as an escape. From people that judge and people that want to help but can't.
Nothing can help me except Felix and I don't know if I'll ever get all of him back.
I should have just let him die.
Danielle walked beside me as I lead her back to camp. It's not like she trusted me instantly. She certainly did not and it took a lot of convincing and question answering to get her to come along. But now she covered me as I traced my footsteps back. It sounds dumb but I'm a brilliant tracker and I had no idea where the fuck I was.
So I was tracking myself.
"You ran really far," she stated as he waved her gun around. I trusted her because most zombies around here couldn't walk and I always carried the cure on me. Not much could go drastically wrong.
"Guess I had a lot to get away from," I dismissed but I actually liked talking to her. She was cool.
"Your ex-boyfriend? Why were you running from him?" She asked.
"It's super complicated," I drawled in a mock teenage girl tone.
She hit my shoulder but laughed and I smiled.
"Why did you guys break up?" She was obviously too young to understand privacy or maybe she just didn't care.
"He kind of died after I killed his daughter," she stiffened up as I said that.
"Don't worry I didn't personally kill her. I was fighting with her and he had to choose to save one of us and he meant to shoot me but he shot her and killed himself," I said it so fast I didn't register it so I didn't feel any pain. But I did start crying because now I was thinking about it.
She jumped up and wrapped her arms around my neck.
"It wasn't your fault," she murmured in my ear. I still didn't believe her.
"It doesn't matter," I said truthfully and she hopped off and kept walking beside me.
"So why is he alive now?" She asked.
"Complicated. He doesn't remember me though," I said and kicked the ground as I walked.
"Isn't that good? I mean now you can fall in love again," she pointed out.
"But we already did. Now he's not the same."
"You're such a girl," she teased.
Finally the base came into view and I waved to show it was me again. Hoping they didn't shoot me.
"Snipers? They're not going to," she screamed as the first bullet fired and I literally picked her up and threw her behind a dumpster and dove beside her but it was too late and my leg hurt more than anything.
"Argh fuck," I cried and tried to manoeuvre my hands over the gaping hole.
"Shit, here," she dug around her bag and flinched when the bullets hit the other side of the dumpster. She handed me bandages and gauze which I wrapped around the wound.
"Keep the pressure on," she commanded and I nodded.
She pulled out a clean white tee shirt and put it over her shotgun and waved it in the air. After a minute the bullets stopped.
"Think it's safe?" She asked.
"No I don't think it's fucking safe!" I cried. My leg hurt so bad.
I heard jogging and harsh boots.
"Stay back!" Someone yelled.
"It's Cry!" I called.
"The dead guys... Friend?" He asked.
"Sure," I said sarcastically.
"Who's the girl?" He asked.
"She doesn't have a group. I was bringing her here until we all leave at least," I explained.
His gun poked around the corner.
"Put your hands up!" He instructed.
"I've. Been. Shot!" I growled.
"Oh sorry, okay I'll get help," he ran off again when he saw my leg. Fucking Texans.
"You're leaving? I thought this was your base?" She asked, confused.
"No, we don't have surgeons at out place but we're a lot nicer," I said as I held my hands over my fucking gunshot wound.
"I hope so," she said.
"You're coming to nevada with me?" I asked. I hope she said yes.
"Of course. These people are freaks. Here let me hold it," she held her small hands over mine on my leg. I was thankful for it but I was getting lightheaded. Luckily the same guy and another one showed up and carried me into the base and through to a 'hospital' room because they totally have a real hospital here.
Danielle sat by my bedside as they wrapped bandages over it. Pulling the bullet out was the worst part but at least it was over.
"Ash," she said.
"What?" I asked and looked over at her.
"Well your name is Ryan but you have a cool nickname Cry. So I should have a cool nickname too. I choose Ash," she said.
"Well, Ash, that is a lot more badass and a lot less girly than Danielle. I would go as far as to say you're taking after me," I smirked and she hit my shoulder.
"Don't get cocky."
There was a gently knock at the door and the sight shocked me. Felix leant against it and had a half smile.
"Cry! I don't know where you went. What happened to you," he stumbled in.
"Woah Da-Ash help him quick!" I said and she ran to hold him up. I grabbed my crutches and swung out of bed. I showed her where his room was and she lead him to his bed again. He was blabbering nonsense the whole way.
"What are you doing up?!" I asked angrily.
"I had to find you! I remembered something!" He smiled and I couldn't help but smile too as I sat on the edge of his bed.
Ash didn't say anything as she meant against the wall. She noticed his name on the wall beside the bed. Felix Kjellberg.
"He's felix?" Her eyes widened. I glared at her and she closed her mouth.
"I'm sorry. Do I know you?" He asked.
"Oh no, you haven't forgotten me. I just met cry and he brought me back here," she explained.
"Brought you back? From where? Where did you go? You said you were staying but when I woke up you were gone and I was confused and I thought you weren't even real because I don't know if anythings real," he started to break down.
"Hey," I soothed and couldn't resist myself. I gently brushed the hair of his face and lay him down. "I'm real, it's alright now, tell me what you remember and I'll tell you where I went," I said softly. Ash rounded the bed and sat in the chair beside it. The chair I promised to stay in.
"Okay, well I went to sleep like you said and I dreamt but I'm pretty sure it was a memory," his babbling is absolutely adorable.
"What did you dream of?" I laughed.
"I was making a gaming video. It wasn't my first one though. It was like my fifth or something and I was posting them on this video site called YouTube or something?" He looked up for confirmation that this was a real memory.
"Yes!" I smiled and hugged him. He hugged me back and Ash smiled.
"I can remember making videos!" He smiled.
"Do you remember showing your face on camera?" I asked. Hoping and praying he said yes. My prayer didn't work. Maybe because I don't believe in any religion. Damn.
"No, I'd only made a couple, did I make more?" He asked.
"I think that's enough remembering for one day," I tried to change the subject because videos lead to Marzia and Marzia lead to a lot of things.
"Please cry," he caught my wrist. "Tell me," he begged.
"Tomorrow. I promise," I didn't want to be shot in the leg and heart today.
"Okay," he submitted. "So where did you go?" He asked.
"Ahh, I went for a run. To clear my head," I kind of lied.
"Oh, okay. You were gone for ages," he said.
"Yeah I got lost and found this one," i ruffled Ash's already messy brown hair.
"She didn't have any supplies and I couldn't leave her out there so I brought her back but, well I don't know if I've told you but this isn't our base. We just needed a surgeon to fix you," I explained. "So they didn't recognise me and shot at us."
"He saved me but got shot," she smiled.
"You were shot?!" He tried to look at my leg.
"Who hasn't been," I pulled his sheets back and rolled up the pants on his left leg to reveal the nasty scar across his shin from a bullet that knicked his artery and required two lots of surgery.
"We're matching," I smiled and he laughed.
"How did I get that?" He looked confused.
"Tomorrow I'll tell you whatever you want," I changed the subject again.
"Promise?" He asked.
"Promise," I smiled.
I was enjoying the moment of silence before Ash broke it with a teenage girl reference.
"Perhaps promise will be your always," she whispered.
"Okay let's go," I grabbed her shoulder and laughed.
"Sleep well and remember more. Come wake me at any time you need or just call out," I said. "Brofist," I extended my fist for him.
"Brofist?" He laughed. "We're we friends when we were twelve. That's so dumb," he criticised ironically.
"You came up with it," I smiled and he conceded and brofisted me back.
"Sleep well too cry," he said and I nodded and hopped back to bed. As soon as the door was shut she started gushing.
"Oh my god you two are sooo cute!" She squealed.
"Except were not a thing," I spat and lay down. Pulling the papery thin sheets up to my chin and facing away from her.
"You still love him don't you," she said.
"That's he problem. He doesn't know who I am," I said bitterly.
"He does though," she sat on the edge of the bed by my good leg. "His body does at least. Just because he doesn't remember you doesn't mean he doesn't know you. It just means he doesn't know he knows you but he still knows you. Which means," she took a deep breath, "it means he sill loves you. That's why he came looking for you. That's why he was worried. That's why he was scared when he woke up without you," she said and I couldn't help but believe her. She yawned when she was done. I suddenly remembered she had no where to sleep.
I got out of bed again.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"Come on. I'm going to stay in this hospital area because I want to be Clair to him but my leg can't handle sleeping in the chairs in his room and so ill be in this room. So you can have my normal guest room I guess.
"It's fine. I can hit sleep in the corner. Why is this place so white?" She asked and looked around.
"That's what I said!" I was glad to have a friend. Even if she is a twelve year old girl. Most of my friends have been to be honest.
"Hahaha okay show me to the White cell," she said and I lead the way back through. I forgot she would be sharing a room with Karree and her two body guards. I pulled her out of the room quickly when I saw they were all sleeping.
"Who are they?" Her wide eyes were worried.
"Don't worry. Karree is awesome and she'll look after you. She's out base leader. Those are just two idiots that try to stop assassination attempts on her," I explained.
"Okay, but what if they don't know who I am when they wake up? What if they shoot me," she looked at my leg.
"They won't shoot you," I laughed. "Just explain it to Karree and you'll be taken care of," I said and she hugged me suddenly.
"Thanks cry," she murmured into my chest and I rubbed her back in return.
"Every time," I smiled and she closed the door. I hopped back to my room and fell onto my bed.
The pain killers were heavy but not heavy enough.
At least they knocked me out.
