"Do you really have to go Evan?" Phoenix chocked out, her eyes glistening with water as they threatened to pour out.
"Yeah, I'm sorry Phoenix. I'm sure we will see each other soon." Evan said as he pulled Phoenix into a hug. She stood on her toes and wrapped her arms around his neck, letting the tears soak his shirt while he rubbed soothing circles onto her back.
They pulled back soon enough, as Evan heard his parents shout at him to hurry up.
"Do you promise we will see each other again?" Phoenix said looking up to him. Evan gave her a soft smile.
"I promise." He whispered, a small smile appearing on her face. "I've got to go now." Evan said as he heard his dad shout again. "I'm going to really miss you." Evan sighed pulling Phoenix into him again and hugging her. She wrapped her arms around his waist this time and pulled him as close as she could.
They were forced apart again.
"I'm going to really miss you too Evan." Phoenix said as Evan reached into his pocket and pulled something out, holding Phoenix's arm out and putting his hand in hers.
"I love you." He said.
"I love you too." She said and they had one last hug before Phoenix watched him run to the car and hop in.
He stuck his head out the window and waved bye as his dad started the car. Phoenix jumped around waving at him as the car slowly began to drive away making the space between them bigger.
"Bye Phoenix!" Evan yelled loudly.
"Bye Evan!" Phoenix yelled as loud as she could before watching the car disappear from sight.
She stood looking at the spot for a moment getting over the fact her best friend for all her life, had just left her.
She opened her hand that Evan held moments ago and looked down at it. A silver necklace was placed in here with a heart charm. Phoenix lifted up the charm and noticed the engraving 'Evan and Phoenix'. Her heart fluttered at it and she couldn't help but smile, even if her and Evan were miles and miles apart. But she relayed what Evan said in her head over and over "I promise" they promised each other that they would see each other again.
And it was true, Evan did not lie. They did see each other again.
