Your POV"Sit your ass down." The correction officer pushed me onto the bus, watching my stumble up the steps.
I muttered a few insults under my breath as I searched the bus for a place to sit. I found an empty seat and sat down, my head was already in its designated spot laid against the window.
I felt the seat next to my dip in and I was practically ready to pop off. I did not need nor want anyone sitting next to or talking to me.
I looked out the window as the bus pulled off but I could practically feel her staring at me.
"Is there something you want ?"
"No, you just look familiar." Her voice was soft yet raspy. She sounded around my age.
"Yeah...I bet." I rolled my eyes.
"You a singer or something?"
"Yeah...I'm Y/n Y/ln." She hummed.
"Yeah you dated um...Ariana right ?" I nodded, I truly did not want to think about her right now.
"Well...I'm Indigo but you can call me Indi." I finally took the chance to look at her. She was small and had a baby face, she looked innocent but if she really was then she wouldn't be sitting next to me right now.
"How old are you, you look young."
"I get that a lot, I'm 18." She looks more like a 16 year old but i'll just keep that to myself.
"So what are you in here for ?"
"Simple Battery." I shrugged.
"You don't seem like the type, kind of a shocker." She giggled.
"Don't judge a book by its cover, kid."
"We should be friends." I looked at her like she was crazy.
"What makes you think I want to be friends ?" She shrugged, tugging at her orange pants pockets.
"I just figured you'd rather be locked in a cage with a friend than locked in a cage with no sanity." She did have a point but I was definitely not gonna admit that.
"Alright...friend." She flashed a soft smile at me, she seemed genuine but you never know.
"What about you ?"
"What ?" She tilted her head.
"What are you in here for ?"
"Simple assault." She turned away after, seems like a sensitive topic.
"How long ?"
"2-7 years." She muttered.
"What the fuck ? why ? You should only have 6 months to a year." I yelled in a hushed tone.
"Well you know how justice works for the black community. The other person was a white guy and he probably worked a deal out with the judge when they went in the chambers. I probably could've gotten away if I just payed a fine but I can't exactly afford $450,000." She let out a fake laugh. I could tell it really hurt her but what exactly can she do ? The justice system is rigged when it comes to the black community.
"The funny thing is, all I did to the guy was punch
him after I saw him try to rape my friend at a party. Funny how privilege works.""Indigo, I'm sorry...like honestly-" She shook her head, giving me a genuine smile.
"Nah Nah, you good, let's just move on alright ?" I hesitatingly nodded.
"So...where you from ?"

"Y/n Y/ln" The guard called. I walked up steadily with my arms out as he placed my uniform and my toiletries then told me to stand in line.
The line started getting shorter while Indigo talked my ear off until it was finally time for me to be assigned a cell.
"Cell Block B, Cell number 21." I nodded and started making my way to where the guard pointed me before my name was called again by someone else.
"Yes you, come here, We're moving you to a personal cell."
"Wait sir...can I um...request to bring someone else with me ?" He narrowed his eyes at me before sighing and asking who.
"Um her right there."
"Prisoner number 2526 come with us." Sage looked around nervously before ultimately packing up what she had with her and walking with us.
We silently walked down the hallway, nobody dared to say a thing. But I couldn't help being curious.
"Um sir...if I may ask, why do I have a personal room ?"
"There was a payment that sought to it that you were protected and were in maximum comfortability."
"May I ask who-"
"They wished to stay anonymous." I nodded.
We finally came to a room and waited while he hand shuffled in his pockets, searching for the keys.
As soon as he opened the door both of our jaws dropped.
There were two twin sized beds with comfortable beddings. A tv on the wall and a vending machine in the corner.
I didn't even want to believe what I was seeing, shit like this I'd only seen in Orange is the new black.
"Enjoy." The guard closed and locked the door.
Well that was a great way to remind me i'm still in jail.
"So why'd you choose me ?"
"Is that really the first thing you have to say ?" I flopped into a bed. It's so comfortable like I felt like I was sleeping on clouds.
"Yep, so answer the question." She flopped into my bed.
"Um...ma'am this is a twin bed and there's literally a bed for you right there." She didn't even say anything, she just stared back with that same smile.
"You know your eyes disappear when you smile right ?" I tapped her nose.
"You're lucky i'm not asian, I really would've beat your ass."
"Well I chose you cause you were right about what you said on the bus. If i'm gonna be here I need alliances and I can't be alone. I need...friends."
She hummed and smiled again then suddenly wrapped her arms around my waist and pulled me into a hug. Seconds passed before I finally gave in and reciprocated hug.
"No one can know about this okay ?" I threatened.
"Sure, I won't tell anyone you're a simp."
"I'm not a simp, I just have to keep my tough image out there." I scoffed.
"Mhmm...sure."
I rolled my eyes but softly smiled down at her. I hope i'm making a good decision opening up to her.
