I wake up and realise it's still dark. Too dark to be time to get up. I look at my blue clock on my timber bedside table.

4:27 am.

Yep, too early. I've got to sleep..

I roll over and pull my blankets closer to me and slowly fall back into a deep, peaceful sleep.

As I arrive at school, I see Lucy and Jack talking again, in the same spot as yesterday. I walk over to them.

"Hey," I greet them.

"Hey guess what!?" Lucy asks me excitedly.

"What!?" I ask in a mocking tone. Jack smirks at me and I shrug.

"There's rumours going around that a new boy in our grade is starting school here!"

"Today?" I ask confused.

"No," Lucy says sadly, but then smiles, "they're saying that he's going to start next week. Today's Wednesday so that means.." Her eyebrows pull closer together as she scrunches her face slightly in concentration. "So that means he starts in 5 days."

"You sure? You don't need anymore time to work it out?" I joke with a smirk plastered on my face. Jack laughs and Lucy giggles, turning slightly red.

"Nope, I'm sure. It's 5 days," she says in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Cool. What's his name?" I ask.

"How am I supposed to know?" She laughs.

"You're meant to know because you're going around telling everyone that a new kid is starting but not knowing anything about him!" Jack answers with a massive grin.

"Well.. I don't really know any more than he's starting.." She fakes sadness.

"Oh that's okay Luce, here have a lollipop so you can be all happy again," I pass her an invisible lollipop and she snatches it.

"Okay!" She accepts enthusiastically and starts licking just above her hand. She looks up at Jack and I and we all start laughing hysterically.

DING DING DING DING

My last class finishes and I head over to see Luce who's waiting at the bus bay for me.

As I get closer I notice that Dylan is sitting by himself on one of the park bench seats. I decide to go over and keep him company.

"Hey," I say sweetly.

"Hey," he replies sadly. "What's up?"

"Nothin' much, just thought you looked lonely so I've come to keep your company." I smile nicely at him. "What about you? You look sad."

"Nahh, just not the best day I guess," he forces a smile.

"Oh. Well, I hope it gets better and that tomorrow you are your normal cheerful self," I say sincerely.

"Yeah," he replies. "Umm I think Lucy wants you," he points to Lucy and I look up to see that she's waving her hands around like a lunatic trying to get our attention. I wave back.

"I better get over there," I say as I start to get up. "You coming?" I turn around and face him.

"Nahh I think I'm good," he smiles, letting me know he's okay.

"Okay. Well, bye," I wave at Dylan this time.

"Cya."

As I get to Lucy, I realise I need to go to the toilet.

"Hey," she greets me.

"Hi. Sorry. Just got to go to the toilet. Be right back." I tell her and start to walk towards the toilets.

As I'm walking to the toilets I notice a strange black car parked on the side of the street closest to me. Cars aren't usually around here at this time so I find it very strange. I see a figure in the driver's seat but the windows are tinted so I can't see what they look like. Oh well, I think to myself.

I reach the brick building and go to the toilet. When I come out, I see the car in the same spot but this time the person is gone. The car is empty. I look around but can't see anyone. I start walking back to the bus bay when a large item hits me hard in the back and I fall to the ground.

"ARHHHHHH!!" I scream at the top of my lungs. I turn over and try to find who or what hit me. I see a baseball bat coming right towards my head, so I roll over and it skims past the back of my head.

"STOP!" I yell. "STOP! PLEASE!" I look back up and see a figure swinging the bat one more time towards my head. I try to roll again but I'm too late and the bat connects with the side of my head in one hard blow.

I feel myself go limp and everything goes black.
