Chapter 2

++Percy++

So far, I was having a great summer. No prophecies, no wars, no evil titans or giants, or even

milder stuff like angry Hera coming down to wipe my memory. I hadn't even run into Kelli yet.

So i was a little mad when I was told i couldnt spend the entire summer at Camp Half-Blood. I

wasn't going to tell my mom that, it was the first time she could get a break since i turned 12...so

i wouldn't mess that up. Her and Paul were going to stay with some of his family somewhere in

Delaware. To be honest, it wasn't that bad at all, especially if where we were going was close to

the beach. When was the last time I went to the beach not on a deadly quest? It sounded nice. . .

. I just wished I could take everyone with me.

Sure, chiron said that I could come back to camp on the weekends, but Iris had better be giving

me a discount for the amount of drachmas she'd be getting by the end of the summer. I talked to

Annabeth, but she said the camp needed her. Everyone is still recovering from the war, and she

still has to work on the finishing touches for the redesign of Olympus. We'll figure it out. It

shouldn't be too hard to chill at the beach. Well, it shouldn't be hard. I knew it would be hard to

stay out of trouble. The least I could do was follow Chirons orders : watch out for any possible

demigods. If I thought about it, there hadn't been new demigods in a while. Most kids had been

found either before or during the wars and so with the others that were . . .gone. . . . It was just

the same people id known, with only a few new faces. I half-hoped that there would be a lot of

unclaimed demigods where I was going. It wasnt likely, though. I was planning on keeping a low

profile, just trying to enjoy things in the moment for once and not let anything weigh on me.

The night before we were about to leave, I started packing. Summer in New York is great, but in

Manhattan it can get really muggy. I wasn't in the mood to listen to traffic from the street below,

but the apartment felt stuffy, especially in my room. I had no idea what I would need for a full

summer at the beach. I was used to packing backpacks for Camp Half-blood, or just using

whatever we could find on a quest. It almost felt weird to pack for stuff like i used to, when me

and my mom would go to Montauk. I threw most of my clothes in a duffle bag, then added a

ziploc of ambrosia that was lying on my dresser. The squares were a little crushed, but it would

have to do. It wasn't like I could carry around the food of the gods with me everywhere. I
