Sonic: Forlorn Prophecy

Chapter 2

When the sun rose the next morning, Sonic and Tails set off for Angel Island. They were going to collect Knuckles, then get heading to Megalo Station in Monopole City. It had been a while since they had been, but Tails had to grab a couple of materials that can only be bought in Monopole. Sonic knew Knuckles wasn't sure about this journey again - what if they bump into them again? Though, it did have its ups as well as its downs. Once Tails stopped the hover car he had built on a special constructed place for his transportation creations on Angel Island, Sonic and Tails departed the car and left to head to the main feature of the rocky floating island; the Master Emerald Shrine. If there was anywhere that Knuckles would be, it would be there, likely doing final checks and trying to make sure that the Emerald wouldn't be stolen while he was away. When they arrived at the foot of the shrine, they cold see the faint red silhouette of the echidna busy at work. Tails jumped up and flew to the top with Sonic walking up the stairs. When he arrived at the top, he saw Tails assisting Knuckles with securing the Master Emerald, setting up a security camera system that would capture if anyone did try and steal it. Sonic chuckled to himself, before looking over to Knuckles who was on his knees, facing the emerald and praying. Sonic smirked, remaining quiet until Knuckles was finished.

"What were you praying for, bud?" Sonic asked,

"The emerald's safety, as well as our own as we head off to Monopole." Knuckles answered. Sonic sighed, rolling his eyes.

"Are you that worried about bumping into the Babylon Rogues?" Tails asked.

"Well, I'm not the biggest fan of them. Is it any surprise I wanna stay away from them? Though, if they do want a fight, I'll happily oblige," Knuckles responded. Before Tails could answer, Sonic butted in, side glancing Knuckles.

"We're not looking for fights this time, Knuckles. We're just going to grab a couple parts Tails needs, maybe tour the city, but that's it. And even if we do bump into them, it's not all bad news." Sonic reassured Knuckles, being met with only an exasperated sigh.

"Sonic is right. If we do bump into them, there may be a chance of Gaia being with them. Speaking of Gaia; she messaged me last night. She says that Sally is gonna be in town meeting with the Queen of Monopole." Tails added. Sonic and Knuckles turned to Tails, both taken aback by the update.

"Sally will be there?" Sonic said, a gentle blush creeping onto his face.

"Monopole has a Queen...? How come we've never heard?" Knuckles asked,

"She isn't like most other royal rulers. Apparently, from what I've heard, she keeps a low profile due to a prophecy she received nearly 16 years ago," Tails explained.

"A prophecy, huh? Wonder what it could've been about?" Sonic wondered.

"Whatever it is, if it is making her keep a low profile, I'd say it's a dangerous prophecy, or at the very least a prophecy of great concern," Knuckles stated.

"Well, we don't know the Queen and that chance to ask her will never likely come, so there's no point wasting time on it. And anyway, know that the cameras are working, we should get going, And hopefully we can find something fun to do for Sonic's birthday tomorrow!" Tails stated. Sonic and Knuckles nodded. Sonic and Tails walked back to the car first, allowing Knuckles to bid a farewell prayer to the Master Emerald before joining them. Sonic and Tails waited for him at the bottom of the shrine. Once he regrouped with them, they joked around on their way back to the car. Knuckles hopped into the back, with Sonic and Tails in the front. Tails started up the car and began to drive away from Angel Island, Knuckles taken a last look as the island grew smaller and smaller, and eventually faded from view. Sonic messed around with the radio, hearing the crackle of a channel come through.

"And next on Mobian Radio, we have an ancient classic that many modern rock fans may know. If you're ready, here is Queen and 'Don't Stop Me Now'." Sonic and Tails looked at each other with wide eyes and grins. Sonic began to sing along with the song, playing air guitar will Knuckles tapped along to the beat on the side of the car, Tails singing along at specific parts of the song while trying to not get distracted by Sonic's wicked guitar solo and goofy shenanigans.

It didn't take them long to get to Monopole, eventually ending up in one of the various tunnels that made way to Megalo Station. Sonic and Knuckles were chatting to each other, the radio still playing rock classics when Tails spotted a shadow above them. Tails quickly looked up, spotting a bird-like figure looking down at them with a stream of green following them. Tails sighed in defeat, shaking his head with a grin.

"Looks like we have company already," Tails alerted. Sonic and Knuckles looked up, seeing the bird figure. Knuckles growled, clenching his fist and teeth as he looked up.

"We got our Gear, Tails?" Sonic asked. Tails nodded, his eyes glued to the road.

"Should be in the boot, Sonic." Sonic turned around to see Knuckles clambering onto the boot and opening it, lifting out Sonic's Gear and handing it to him before closing the boot and returning to his seat. Sonic stood up, preparing to take off on his gear.

"Hey, Knux, you can take the front seat if you like," Sonic offered.

"It's fine, mate, I'm fine here," Knuckles responded. Sonic nodded, looking down the tunnel and analyzing the obstacles.

"I'll see what Jet wants. Megalo Station?" Sonic said. Tails nodded, vocalizing a "Mhm" very briefly. Sonic threw his gear into the air, activating it once he jumped and landed on it. Within seconds, he was speeding off in search for the next opening, Jet following behind him. Sonic looked over his shoulder, seeing Jet crack a smile and speak. Sonic rolled his eyes, his eyes focused on finding the next available opening.
