HYDRA ALERT

Bucky trudged up the busy streets of NYC, his heavy combat boots hitting the concrete. He didn't know why he was here; he simply let his feet drag him wherever they wanted. He could remember almost everything from before HYDRA; minus a few bits and pieces. Most memories involved a blond man, his best friend, his boyfriend. But the pain and torture he went through whilst with HYDRA was clear as day; always being able to ruin his good mood when he thought about Steve. His head was spinning and he was trying to decipher faces from the memories that played on repeat through his mind. He was dressed in full black and had an army dog tag around his neck with the name 'Steven Rogers' engraved into the metal. Just as he was about to pass out from the dizziness in his head, he looked up when he heard yells and several sets of feet running towards him. Amongst the group of weirdly dressed people, he spotted the guy from his memories. Those eyes...The eyes that were always able to make him feel safe. His Steve.

Avengers tower:

The Avengers were gathered in the living room of the tower, having simple conversations between themselves when the alarm began going off. They all stood up and began gathering their suits and weapons.

"J.A.R.V.I.S, what's going on?!" Tony shouted.

"The Winter Soldier has been spotted. He is heading towards the tower. He seems disorientated." The AI told them.

"Perfect time to take him down then." Sam shrugged. They all suited up before leaving the tower and running (or flying or swinging) down the streets of New York in the direction of the Winter Soldier. They reached him quickly but Steve stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the broken look on his childhood best friend's face. Bucky's face was covered in a layer of dirt and blood. He had bags under his eyes from nights without sleep and his eyes looked lifeless.

"Bucky?" Steve called, holding a hand up to the rest of the team to stop them from moving forward any more. Bucky looked up and a small smile graced his face. Steve ran up to him and put his arms on Bucky's shoulders, holding the tired man up straight.

"Bucky, can you hear me?" Steve asked.

"Clear as day." Bucky told him in a croaky voice.

"Which Bucky am I talking to?" Steve asked, looking directly into Bucky's eyes. Bucky thought for a minute, trying to figure out how to convince Steve he was back to normal. Then it hit him, something only Steve's Buck would know.

"You're mother's name was Sarah. You used to put paper in your shoes." Bucky laughed a bit at the last statement. Steve rolled his eyes.

"Come here you jerk." Steve said, pulling Bucky into a hug. Bucky giggled.

"Punk." He said before hugging Steve back.

"You used to wear paper in your shoes?!" Clint exclaimed, bursting into fits of laughter. But Steve couldn't care less. He had his Bucky back. Tears leaked out of Steve's eyes, making Bucky's shoulder wet. Bucky pulled away from the hug and held Steve's face in his hands, staring into the teary eyes of his lover.

"Why are you crying? What's wrong? What hurts?" Bucky asked, scanning Steve over for injuries. Steve shook his head with a smile on his face.

"Nothing Buckybear. I'm okay. Scratch that, I'm better than okay. I have you back. Everything's perfect." Steve told him, effectively stopping Bucky from assessing him. Steve leaned forward to capture Bucky's lips in his own and time seemed to stand still as their lips moved in sync with the other's, taking them back to the war, their final kiss. Or what they thought would be their final kiss at least. But here they are, 60 odd years later, sharing another sweet, warm kiss with their love.
