Before she hit the ground, she was caught by a girl covered in tattoos and piercings.
"Shit. That was quite a fall. You okay?" the girl said
"Yeah, thanks for catching me." Elodie replied in her timid voice
"Araminta Eaton. But please, call me Ara." she said, holding her hand out to initiate a shake
"Hi, i'm Elodie Southerland. But please, call me Elodie." she said mockingly
They both chuckled.
"So, Elodie, what you doing now?"
Elodie was so fixated on Ara's glistening eyes that she didn't respond straight away
"Crap, sorry, i've got to get home. Curfew and all that shit." She finally announced
"Oh. It's okay, i'll just give you my phone number, here."
"Ok cool, i'll text you sometime." Elodie said as she walked away.
When she arrived at home, it was 2 minutes before 8pm. Curfew. Elodie let out a long relieved sigh and went into the kitchen to get a snack. She opened the refrigerator and got her chocolate that was labelled "THIS IS EL'S. DO NOT TOUCH." She snapped a few squares off and went to the attic; her bedroom.
When she got to her room, Heather was there. She was blasting her shit music through her headphones and Elodie scoffed and dumped her scruffy denim jacket and backpack on the floor. She sat on her bed in her fluffy pyjamas and stared at her ceiling at the posters of Awsten Knight and Matty Healy. She then remembered she was going to text Ara so she grabbed her phone and looked at the time. It was 8:30, so she only had half an hour before Jo, the carer, came and collected all the phones for the night.
'Hi' she put in a panic because she didn't know what else to write.
'Hiya' Ara replied in less than a minute
'What you doing?' Ara put straight away
'Nothing much, hbu?'
The conversation went on until 9pm when Jo collected the phones from all the foster kids and when Heather had fallen asleep, Elodie laid in her bed, not sleeping, but thinking about Ara.
