Elodie opened her eyes after a long, peaceful sleep and her first thought of the day was, of course, Ara. She knew that she had texts from her but her phone was downstairs and she was in too much of a good mood to interact with all 13 of her fake brothers and sisters. She clambered over the pile of clothes Heather had left lying on the floor and put her hoodie on to go downstairs. When she got to the kitchen, Zach and Willow were fighting over who gets the milk first. Stupid 9 year olds.
"Right whoever can find me the bagels first can have the milk." Elodie had thought about that. She had always known how to get the younger kids in group homes to do things but for a reward that was hardly a reward.
She watched as they searched through the cupboards but as she heard Jo walking down the stairs she ran towards her and Jo instantly knew what she wanted.
"Here, open the others' drawers as well."
She handed her the keys and Elodie went to her drawer and found her phone amongst all of the unopened letters.
Snapchat from: Ara<3
She opened the snap and it was a picture of Ara's half shaved head and a caption that read
U free today? Missing you xx
Elodie's heart filled with warmth as she read it and she ran upstairs, phone held to her chest, and got dressed. She put her baggy mom jeans on, an oversized pastel pink hoodie, and dug through her endless pile of shoes to find her rainbow converse. She parted her thick, curly hair and messed with her fringe to make it look wispy and cute, and put on her fluffy white bucket hat and went outside to get her bike and ride towards the coffee shop on the other side of town.
