The Drought Is Over
Have a seat beautiful lady," King urged. "Or should I say queen."
"Thank you very much handsome," SunShine replied blushing.
The restaurant was decorated specially for couples that night. They sat together at the front part of the restaurant with lustful eyes on each other. Everyone around each table was formally dressed and were either husbands and wives or just dating. The imperishable binding forces of love covered the ceiling of the restaurant like a thick blanket and roamed like oxygen through the hearts of every man and woman around each table. Candle lights enlightened the area.
"Good evening, what are you having on the menu?" the Waitress asked.
"We'll both have Shrimp Cocktail along with grape leaves, Caesar Salad and ice cold raspberry champagne," King ordered.
"Ok sir, you'll be served in a short while," the Waitress said.
"SunShine sweetheart, I want you to grant me a small favour," King huskily said to her in an attractive way.
"What's that?" SunShine asked not knowing what to expect. "I wonder if it's an engagement ring," she whispered softly inside her head.
"Cover your eyes with your hands for me and please no peeping," he requested. "I have a little surprise."
He shoved his hand into the pocket of his tuxedo jacket and slowly pulled out a small box that looked exactly like a tiny jewellery box.
"You can open your eyes now sweetheart," he urged opening the box.
She thought wrong. It wasn't an engagement ring it was a key.
"Would you be able to guess?" he asked smiling.
"No," SunShine replied clueless.
"It's the key to your business place, your own hair salon," he told her.
"Oh my god, I'm speechless right now. King you really did this for me?" she asked with tears of joy swimming down her cheeks.
"I did this for you with a willing heart because I love you unconditionally. Wipe away all your transgressions. I'm here for you, life has changed now. Continue to fight for your dream to become a nurse. The world is waiting for you."
"Lean forward let me tell you something," she said as they bathed each other's tongue under the lights of scented candles.
I slid on a Louis Vuitton T-shirt and quickly sprayed on an expensive cologne. Suddenly Zeke shoved the room door with an outburst of energy.
"Josh! Josh! Guess what? I just got a scholarship to attend College of Sports. I can't believe this is happening Josh. I can't believe that I'm going to be a professional football player. The rough life is finally coming to an end. Pinch me if I'm still dreaming. Man I just can't believe I received a scholarship. Can't wait for mom to come home to surprise her with the great news," Zeke said excitingly.
"Come here bro, give me a hug. I'm very proud of you, truly proud of you," I commended him. "We survived the horrible drought of adversaries, let's give thanks. I wish dad was here to see what his sons have turned out to be in life. Regardless I still miss him. Oh shit
I'm behind time, have to get moving."
"Why are you in such a hurry big bro?" Zeke asked me.
"I'm bringing Abrianna to the movies," I replied running through the door.
"Don't forget to kiss her, she's a very beautiful girl player," Zeke shouted. "All the girls will flock me at school tomorrow like pigeons rushing a grain of corn when they hear I got a scholarship to go to College of Sports."
At the movies, Abrianna clung on to me like a child under her mother's arms. A romantic scene showed on the big screen while we ate popcorn, turning up intense heat inside us like a 300- degree oven. We kissed passionately in ecstasy. We were bonded by the hands of love, like nuts in a shell. Our undying love was forever eternal.
In the morning, I laid in bed reminiscing on all the things I have been through over the years. I felt an imponderable punch in my heart. I could clearly hear it crying out loudly saying,
"Be not dismay you have made it. You have survived."
Abruptly, the alarm on the bedside table buzzed loudly snapping me out of the pass. I sprang out of bed and washed my face with cold water remembering something good. I horridly dried my face and rushed to the living room and grabbed up the television remote. I turned on the plasma television that hung on the wall and switched it to the morning news. I saw myself doing an interview for the 'Fish Scale Plastic' innovation. I switched the channel to another station and saw myself doing an interview for a reggae song that topped the charts, "Soldiers Finish Line." I didn't know I could write music until I was inspired to put the pen on paper. Suddenly, I heard something dropped on the veranda. Without hesitation, I opened the door and looked. I glimpsed a boy pedaling a bicycle as he delivered newspapers. I picked up the paper he threw on the veranda, realizing that I was featured on the front cover for the "Most Influential Aspiring Entertainer and Entrepreneur." This time I wasn't dreaming I was living the reality of a dream. I felt proud in myself to know that I didn't quit and surrender to the hardships of life. Instead, I figured out a way to survive and managed to bloom splendidly like a beautiful flower. I survived nineteen years of life-threatening hardships simple by believing in my dreams. Irrespective of what others have said, I never gave up believing in any of them. I kept the faith and fought back like a strong soldier, now I'm the winner.
"The drought is over!Amen."
