Care workers p.o.v.

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. I sleepily rolled over to check what time it was. Midnight. Who in their right mind would be ringing at this time? I was going to ignore it and go back to sleep until I noticed it was my bosses number. my boss calling me was never a good thing. Mustering all the courage I could I accepted the call.

"Hello," I mumbled tiredly hoping he wouldn't notice. "I need you to come into work a kid's parents just died in an accident and we need care worker to go to the hospital." The boss said in his stern voice. hospital? why was the kid in the hospital? I quickly told him I would be there straight away and hung up. I got dressed then rushed to the hospital as soon as I could. After talking to a nurse and filling in all the relevant paperwork I was brought to a room where the kid was. My heart dropped when I saw him. Even though his hair was covering his eyes you could see they were red and swollen. All of his left arm from his shoulder to just below his elbow was covered in a burn. This poor kid was only eight and he's already been through so much.

"Hi Virgil," I said as softly as possible. It still shocked the boy and made him jump. He looked at me for a brief minute then looked back down at the floor. We stayed in silence for a moment and then when I noticed he wasn't going to respond I continued speaking. "My names Astrid, I'll be your care worker from now on" He still didn't say anything he just hugged his teddy tighter. The teddy was a spider but seemed to have a burn mark on it. "Do you like spiders?" I questioned trying to get him to talk. He just hummed and a small smile appeared on his face. I spent about ten minutes trying to get him to speak but he wouldn't. Eventually, I had to give up since we needed to get to the care home he would be staying at. luckily it wasn't that far away.

The care home was on a quiet street filled with old Victorian-style houses.
The house was large and had think ivy engulfing most of the left side of the wall. Pulling up to the front of the building I looked back to check on Virgil and found that he was asleep. "Virgil wakeup we're here." He started to shift and slowly woke up.

Virgil's p.o.v.

"Virgil wakeup we're here." I hear the strange woman from the Hospital say. I slowly wake up to see it was still dark outside. I must have been staring at the creepy looking house for at least five minutes before the strange woman told me we need to go inside. I slowly shuffled over to the looming front door and waited for the lady to knock. The loud knocking on the door made me jump and my heart started pounding. My brain started to spiral with all the bad things that could happen. I wanted to run away but before I could the door swung open. A man stood there an angry look on his face. The strange lady spoke up "Hello, I'm here to drop this child off. Are you Mr. Winters" The angry man looked us both other like he was expected us to say it was a joke and walk away. "Fine," he huffed out "come in." The place looked like your typical family house just with a lot more clutter around the place. "KAI PLEASE CAN YOU COME DOWN HERE" The once angry man shouted but he now seemed a lot more relaxed and had a caring tone in his voice.

A boy around my age came down the stairs. You could obviously tell he just woke by he messy bed hair and his half-open eyes." what..." he said voice all groggy. "We have a new kid. He'll be sharing a room with you." the older man informed. "Can you show him to your room and get him settled in. You can give him the tour tomorrow." I was so tired I didn't even fight back when the boy ran up to me and started to pull me upstairs. I quickly look back to see the adults going into what looked like an office. Probably to do some more paperwork.

kai pulled me into a room and then flopped onto one of the two beds in the room. He pointed to the other bed and said "that's your bed, Where's all you stuff." At this, I burst into tears. That stupid fire had taken everything from me. The next thing I knew Kia was pulling me into a hug. "Sorry I Know it can be hard, most people here know what's it like to have everything ripped away. You can have some of my clothes. "His voice was filled with kindness and understanding.

After I calmed down I pulled my self out of kai's grip and then crawled under my blanket and called up into a ball hugging Mr. Spider as tightly as I could. I don't know how long it took but eventually I managed to fall asleep.
