The four men sat in Sir Harold Toft's study, drinking liquor, chatting and roaring with laughter. Sir Toft, Alliott, Cann, and Sir William Baker debated politics, laughed jokes, and roared over women. Sir Toft, Alliott and Cann talked, bragged, and complained about the Mrs. while Sir William Baker just laughed when they did, nodded when he understood, and added small comments on the side, for he had no wife to talk about. Yet.
The study was illuminated by a few lamps, while the rest of the room lay dark. The night sky held the moon steady, the stars sprinkled across like confetti. Crickets chirped outside the window, singing a sweet lullaby.
"So how's my daughter treating you, Will?" barked Sir Toft, taking a sip of alcohol.
William nodded, "She is doing quiet well, sir."
Sir Cann laughed, "Poor kid, what she be doin' now?"
The men all knew that William has struggled with Lady Azaria for the past week since she arrived. They never planned it, but the three men began to lure him into telling him what was happening behind closed doors.
Sir William laughed light-heartily, "My friends, she cannot help it. The lady has been traumatized. I do not blame her. Though, it could be worse," he took a sip of his drink.
They laughed, Sir Alliott spoke up, "Indeed, I witnessed one of her 'fits' the other day. Harold, my friend, please take no offense when I say this, but someone better get her under control!"
Sir Harold laughed, "I couldn't agree more. That bitch has it coming."
All the married men joined in with his laughter, while Will nearly choked on his drink. Of course, he agreed with him! He swore that she was possessed by Satan. But he never thought to hear it from her step-father's mouth!
"Sir Toft," William chuckled awkwardly, "I never knew you held such coloured words for you step-daughter."
Harold grunted, "And you don't? I don't know how much longer I can take of her shenanigans. I cannot wait till you marry her and get her out of my house!" He laughed again.
"Hm," grunted William, "I hope her washed brain gets back to the way it was soon before it pushes me to the edge."
Sir Cann raised his glass to him, "That a boy! Don't take her shit, show her who's in charge!"
Sir Alliott and Sir Toft joined the toast, raising their glasses to Will. "I swear, women think they can get away with anything these days," grumbled Sir Toft.
"I hear ya," Sir Cann agreed, "Well, it pays off in the long run, then, eh, sport?" Sir Cann nudged Sir William with his shoulder, giving him a wink.
William Baker took a sip, "I'm afraid I don't know what you mean."
The men chuckled, "Is the gettin' good?" Roared Sir Alliott.
William put up his hands defensively, "What about waiting till marriage?" Obviously he had slept with Azaria many times already, three years ago. But he didn't want them to know that. Especially with her step-father sitting right across from him.
Harold chimed in, "William, we all know you banged her already. Her Mother knew back in Great Britain! You can't hide that shit from your own mother unless she dumb as a door nail!" They roared with laughter.
Sir Baker ran his fingers through his hair, embarrassed. The men looked to Will anxious to hear what he had to say about his sex life with his fiance. "Well, if I remember correctly, it has been so long, but it made your toes curl."
