Julia lost someone too.
Julia Mary Leanne Briar was born into a loving family. She had a mother, a father and a older brother who adored her. Julia later had a sister, Addison who she loved very much.
Julia's story truely starts when she was ten. It was the holidays but her father, who's a lawyer, still had to go to work. So her parents went to the door where her mother straightened her fathers tie and kissed him on the cheek, like she did every morning. Than her father left for work.
There was a moment of silence in her life as her mother walked back into the kitchen to find John pouring himself a cup of coffee, which he wasn't allowed to have. It was normal, calm. She remembers John telling her mother that he was going to check out a local band that night and her mother telling him to be back before curfew.
Than Addison asked if she could go outside and play in the puddles. Of course Julia wanted to go as well and with little persuasion their mother and them went outside to play in the puddles.
They'd barley been outside five minutes when Lea, Julia's mother, got the hazed look in her eyes that she sometimes got. John had once said it was called depression and bi-polar, but Julia being ten had no clue what those two words meant.
Julia's mother stood from the porch railing she had been leaning on and waited a moment, before turning and almost like in a trance glided inside.
Julia and Addison were still playing outside when John came rushing outside.
'Mum said we have to go next door to play with Mrs.Micmillons cats because she's too old to play with them and they get lonely.' John told the girls as he hoisted Addison onto his hip and turned Julia into his side. But something in Julia told her that the cats were fine.
Maybe it was the feeling of a lose of connection or maybe it was the feeling of knowingness.
Or maybe it was the fact that she saw her mother standing in her bedroom window swaying to the gentle breeze.
No, her mother wasn't standing, but she was swaying. Because she was hanging.
Julia thought that was funny and waved to her mother. Who did not wave back. Her father came home early that day. Than he took the children to see their mother one last time. Addison told her mother a bedtime story because she was asleep and Addison wanted to help her have good dreams. John stood solemnly in the corner with her fathers arm wrapped around his shoulder. But Julia couldn't bring herself to enter the room.
She knew her mother was dead. She'd seen dead things before, a bird one of the neighboring cats brought to the door one time, a few bugs John had sprayed in the bathroom.
She knew, and looking back on that time now she wishes she had gone into see her mother. To say goodbye.•
Julia's father decided it wasn't healthy for them to dwell so he did the best he could to keep the kids lively. Many changes came to the Briar family. One of those changes being her father, Mark, coming out as gay.
He met a man, Leo. Who Addison would accidentally call lion during the first few months of knowing him.
Eventually they got married and settled in as a family.
Leo was actually the one who bought Julia her first drum set.
It was a second hand Ludwig set from another cop who works at Leo's station.
And Julia played those drums like they were all she had.•
Julia wasn't actually that rebellious, I mean one of her dads was a cop. But when she was she managed to whip out some court room techniques she'd learned from Mark.
Something she put into play during the day she got detention.It was English and she was listening to music, Pink Floyd dark side of the moon to be precise. Accept headphones and phones in general weren't accepted in class. So that gave birth to this interaction;
'Miss Briar could you please remove your headphones and give them to me.' Her teacher Miss.Vions asked knowing full well Julia would manage to weasel her way out of it.
'But miss phones aren't confiscated till the third warning, and I do believe this is only my second!' Julia smirked, all of her teachers were used to this by now and had also gotten quiet good at debate.
'Yes but if you take into account your many tardies and other mishaps I do believe we are well into our teens with these warnings.' The teacher eyed Julia, waiting for the comeback.
'Ah! Yes but this is my phone we're talking about, not tardies meaning my other mishaps should not effect this current situation.' Julia smiled and Miss. Vions crosses her arms and raised a brow.
'Alright I'll make you a deal. You can keep the phone, out of sight may I add, if during your next break you go and sign up for the school debate team.' This was a common ask of Julia, and truth be told she had actually signed up once but because of her multiple 'warnings' she wasn't allowed to be in any school based activity's.
'Miss you know they won't let me!'
'Than take this note to the principal insisting that you join!' Miss Vions laughs as she quickly scribbles down a recommendation note of sorts.
Julia smiled and took the note making her way to the door. But as she walked she heard a boy whisper some awful words to her; you're dad might be good in the court room but he's still a faggot'.
Julia span around, debate team forgotten.'Excuse'mwa?' She said loudly as she purses her lips.
'That's right I said that. I said that your faggot of a father is a faggot.' The boy laughed as he too stood from his seat.'Woah what an extensive vocabulary you have there, faggot twice in one sentence.' Julia smirked at the red faced boy. By now the teachers attention had been drawn and she was just about to interrupt when the boy made another comment.
'Your dads got mine in court and after he looses this case my dads gonna kill your dad.' Julia laughed and pulled back her arm punching him square in the nose. She wasn't the best fighter but this punch took him by surprise, sending him to the floor.
She stood over him and mockingly said; 'by your wording it sounded as if you were saying YOUR father was to loose the case.'
The boy looked up at her and spat.
So Julia jumped down, straddled him and began punching his face repeatedly.'MISS BRIAR, MR DONNER. PRINCIPALS OFFICE NOW!' Miss Vions yelled as a group of boys pulled Julia off 'Mr Donner'.
So Julia, who had blood covered knuckles and some bleeding from the few punches the boy had gotten in, swept up her pencil case and swaggered out of the room.
She was going to leave but after stopping by her locker she spied a can of spray paint and had a better idea.
So she went to the gym to let her inner artist flow.
