'Just Not My Day'

Jane's POV

Two years later. . . .

"Daren. I have to leave for work." I mumbled against his lips as he lets out a chuckle.

"We could call a sick day and stay here all day." He said, tightening his grip on my waist. I pulled back enough to adjust his tie a little bit.

"As much as I will like that, we can't. You have an important meeting to attend and I need to be at the daycare, we are short on staff." I said pecking his lips one last time before I pulled away from him completely.

Daren fell backwards into the bed with a grunt. I shook my head and laughed as I exited the room. I went into the kitchen to finish making breakfast. Nothing fancy, just a simple toast and jelly. I am running a little too late to make a proper breakfast.

I put the toast on the counter as Daren bites one, pouring himself coffee. I lean back onto the counter pressing the coffee mug to my mouth.

Daren looks at me, raising an eyebrow. "So you're not going to work?"

"I don't have the car." I stated. Daren raised an eyebrow in confusion. "It's in the shop getting the battery fixed."

"Oh." He said nodding his head taking another sip of his coffee. Suddenly he remembered something. "Oh!" He repeated quickly grabbing his blazer and suitcase. "I gotta get you to work." He mumbled more to himself.

I calmly picked up my purse while Daren rushed out the door. Knowing my husband I grabbed his car keys and closed the house door.

"Keys, keys, keys." He repeated as he frantically searched his pants pockets. "I don't have the keys." She stated in realization. He began run back to the house but stopped when he saw the keys dangling off my finger.

"You're a life saver." He said kissing my cheek and taking the keys from me. I got into the passenger side of the car putting on my seatbelt.

The ten minute drive to work was filled with meaningless conversation about nothing really. I gave Daren a kiss before I got out of the car, walking to the front door of the preschool.

I am greeted by children running around playing with each other laughing, and a very pregnant Martha.

Martha let out a sigh of relief when she spotted me walk in. She waddled over towards me with her had on her huge round stomach. "Thank god your here what took you so long?" She asked pulling me into a hug, her stomach in between us making it a little hard.

"Daren is slow." I said causing her to let out a small laugh.

"Well at least your here they are getting a little too excited today."

Three hours into work the kids became tired from reading and playing and let them take a nap, giving Martha and I a break.

We walked over to two of the chairs in the corner sitting in them. Martha instantly took off her flats bending her feet back and forth. "My feet are killing me. They are all swollen and whatnot. I feel like they are about to explode." She complained.

I laughed at her shaking my head. "They all look so peaceful." I say looking at the sleeping angles.

"Yah, but they just ran out of energy, and they are recharging right now. In just an hour they will be jumping around nonstop. They are little monsters. Don't let their innocence fool you, they are little time thieves." She quietly laughs along with me.

"Soon you will have one to take care of 24/7, and they will steel all your time." I pointed out.

"Yeah but I'll be happy to give it to her." She says looking down and rubbing her belly. Her eyes widen and a smile grew on her face. She grabbed my hand and putting it where her hand once was. I felt the kick of her soon to be daughter on my hand.
