Cristiano was acting weird and to say it wasn't noticeable would be a lie. James wasn't the only one that noticed either, it was their children as well. He wasn't being rude or anything, and James was sure he didn't mean to snap all the time, but he just seemed a lot more on edge than normal. Small outbursts of anger that would erupt from any minor inconvenience, the huffs of annoyance if anyone as so much as did something wrong near him. He would mutter words under his breath whenever James announced his departure for work or meetings. Today was no different it seemed as James was about to leave with Georgina when Cris just up and stormed out of the room, not bothering to say goodbye or anything.
Georgina glanced at him when they left the house, "What's wrong with him?"
"I-I'm honestly not sure," James frowned and shrugged. Trying to brush it off as nothing, but even as he tried to explain to Gio that there wasn't anything wrong she looked like she didn't believe him one bit.
"It's really nothing, I swear." James tried one last time as they got in the car.
"Right okay," she nodded and chuckled shaking her head. "You'd tell me if there was anything wrong though right? You guys are some of my closest friends, I'd hate to see anything happen between you two."
"Of course I'd tell you, and if I didn't he would." James reassured her as he started the car, they drove to the mall in relative silence. The calming hum of the car filling the air, at some point Gio put some music on but James didn't listen.
His mind was filled with his own thoughts. All of them swirling together, confusing him and making him wonder if there really was anything wrong between him and Cris. Last he knew they were actually happy, they were perfectly content with their lives and their large family. Unless... Cris wasn't actually happy? Would he tell James? Why wouldn't he? They were married, and husbands tell each other everything right?
James frowned and shook his head with a huff, he'd put this all off until later, when he'd be home with Cristiano. He could ask him then, for now, he'd just ignore all of this. James was almost positive that this wasn't a big deal.

They were preparing dinner together when all of the questions from earlier that day popped up into his head, James looked over and seen Cristiano practically glaring down at the vegetables he was cutting. His jaw was clenched, the loud thump thump thump from the knife hitting the cutting board only making James slightly uncomfortable. James hung his head quickly, going back to stirring the chicken broth, what if this really was a big deal? Did James do something wrong? Was Cristiano... mad at him? The thought was almost too much to bear and James quickly turned to face him. He needed to ask this before he lost the courage to.
"Cris?"
"What?"
"I-I uh, I need to ask you something." James muttered and he watched closely as the knife stopped. Cris sat the knife down onto the board gently, he met eyes with the younger man. James bit his lip and walked closer to Cris tentative, his nerves making him shake slightly. "Are you mad at me?"
"Am I what?" Cristiano asked, crossing his arms and a light blush filled his cheeks.
"Are you mad at me? Did I-I don't know, did I do something wrong?"
"What? No, god no," Cristiano gasped and shook his head quickly, "I'm fine."
"No you're not, don't lie to me." James pouted, he crossed his arms too. "Just tell me Cris."
"No, everything's fine-"
"Tell me."
"James just drop i-"
"You're acting like a weirdo! You've been so snappy-"
"James I said-"
"No Cris! Stop lying-"
"We haven't had sex in over 3 months James!" The outburst had them both blushing like teenagers. James was shocked into silence, his mouth agape and Cris looked like he was going to burst from how red he got. He huffed and turned away. Ready to walk out of the room.
"Wait Cris-"
"No," Cris practically ran to the guest bedroom. He slammed the door behind himself, James felt his lips tilt up into a smile. His anxiety and nerves from before were completely gone. So that's what this was all about? James mentally laughed as he finished their dinner.

Ever since the outburst, their lives returned back to normal. James just assumed that Cris wanted to ignore it so he acted like he didn't remember anything about it. When in all seriousness he was secretly planning a perfect way to fix Cris' little problem.
"The kids are going to be staying with Gio this weekend." James brought up as they were getting ready for bed, Cris stopped shaving for only a moment before resuming. Clearly affected.
"Why?" He asked, trying to sound all nonchalant about it, James snorted and shook his head smirking.
"I don't know, because Cristianinho and Salome want to?" He gargled his mouthwash for a bit before spitting it into the sink. Cris just finished wiping his face off with a towel when James snuck up behind him. James made sure to press his body against Cris' as he leaned towards his ear, "Plus I just thought we could use a weekend alone. Just the two of us."
Cris dropped the towel and James chuckled, walking back into the bedroom. When Cris followed, his cheeks were bright red. He silently got into the bed and James giggled snuggling up close to the older man.
"I can't wait," he whispered and kissed Cris' shoulder. Cris wrapped his arms around him James and hummed.
"You didn't do this for me, right?"
"Of course I did," James scoffed and poked Cristiano's cheek. Cris bit his lip and blushed harder, "What kind of husband do you think I am? If you think were not having sex enough-"
"James!" Cristiano whined, covering his face clearly embarassed.
"Oh come on, we're both adults here!" James laughed, gently pulling Cris' hands away. He leaned up pressing a soft kiss to Cris' cheek. "I'm looking forward to this weekend just as much as you are."
"You are?"
"Mhmm," James nodded and gently nuzzled Cris' jaw. "We're going to have so much fun Cris."
James smirked as he heard Cristiano's breathing get heavier, the weekend couldn't come soon enough for either of them.
