Trigger warning
Haseya and Coleman woke up in the dark. She blinked trying to gain her bearings when she felt the cold cement flooring. The stench of many different things. They were in the f*cking cells.
"Sh*t." Coleman grumbled. Haseya went to his aid. "Are you okay?" She cupped his face. "Are you okay?" He countered holding her hand. Haseya nodded. "I think so." She was so focused in Coleman until she heard a whimper. It was hard to see but it sounded like Malcom.
Her head immediately shot up and she began to try and listen for where Malcom could be.
"Mal...baby?" Her voice cracked. "Mama." Haseya broke into tears it was her son! She was so scared when she couldn't find him earlier hearing his voice broke something in her. "Yes yes baby it's me. Crawl to my voice Malcom. Crawl to Mama's voice." She sobbed searching for his voice.
"I peed myself mama I'm sorry I tried to be a big boy." He sniffled. "Malcom you are the biggest bravest boy I have ever met. It's okay love mommy and daddy aren't mad at you."
Her and Coleman's heart broke at this.
Haseya desperately began crawling to where his voice came from. "Come to me baby." Haseya's hands met the bars squinting hard to see him.
"Malcom baby it's me come to me." Her voice tightened.
She waited anxiously until she felt tiny hands against hers. She exhaled a shaky breath of relief taking his hands into hers. "It's me it's me." She cried tracing her face with his hands. She felt Coleman come beside her and reach for Malcom too.
"I thought you left me." Malcom burst into tears.
Haseya squinted her eyes tightly trying not to cry. "I would never just leave you Malcom. You're my baby. I will never ever just leave you behind." She assured him. "Daddy is here?" He asked hesitantly.
"I'm right here Malcom. I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere anymore." He said it both for his son and for Haseya.
"Malcom?" And unfamiliar male's voice came from the cellar with her son.
"Who's that?" Haseya asked her son with her guard up. "Peter." Malcom sniffled wiping his tears.
"He's my friend." Haseya almost breathed in relief when the sun began to rise. She could see Malcom's face a little more and Peter.
"Pete?" Coleman grunted. "I tried my best sheriff." Pete smiled sadly. "It's you." Haseya whispered remembering the man who helped her out all those years ago. "Hi Haseya." He spoke softly.
Coleman didn't know they knew each other.
Pete smiled at her. "I wanted to help. But I don't know what is going to happen and now I'm a prisoner so they won't let me in on what's next. I'm sorry."
"It's okay. You tried. Thank you so much I owe you everything." Coleman argued.
Haseya looked at her baby's face. His eyes were red and chubby cheeks stained with tears. "Oh baby. I'm so sorry." Haseya kissed him through the bars.
Coleman reached through and stroked Malcom's head. "I love you Mal." He choked a little. He had so many regrets. He did everything he could but he missed out so much on being a father. His greatest regret. He wanted more time and now he didn't know if he would get it. "I love you too."
The family of three leaned against the bars holding on to each other in fear and sadness and love. They drifted off to sleep with all their hands interconnected. Haseya felt peace having her son. She wished it wasn't like this but knowing he was a live was more than enough. At the moment.
