Y/N's POV
We were given some information about the first task. It was on the twenty fourth of November and that we would only be allowed our wands. Me and Harry trudged back to the Common Room, not speaking to each other. How would everyone react?
The blast of noise that met our ears when the portrait opened almost knocked us backward. Next thing I knew, I was being wrenched inside the common room by about a dozen pairs of hands, and was facing the whole of Gryffindor House, all of whom were screaming, applauding, and whistling.
"You should've told us you'd entered!" bellowed Fred; he looked half annoyed, half deeply impressed.
"How did you do it without getting a beard? Brilliant!" roared George.
"I didn't," Harry said, "I don't know how-"
But Angelina had now swooped down upon him. "Oh if it couldn't be me, at least it's a Gryffindor-"
"We've got food, Harry, come and have some-"
"I'm not hungry, I had enough at the feast-"
It was all Harry, no one looked at me twice, the only person who spoke to me was Issac and I told him that I didn't know how my name got in, he believed me of course.
Ignoring everyone else who were fawning over Harry, I trudged upstairs to Ron.
"Hey Ron." I said with a strained smile.
Ron looked at me with an almost forced grin. "Hey Y/N."
Silence. Then Ron spoke. "How'd you get your name in? Did Issac do it for you?"
I shook my head. "I don't know. Maybe there was a mix up or something."
Nothing else was said until Harry walked in.
"Where've you been?" Harry said to me and Ron.
"Oh hello," I said.
"So," Ron said, "congratulations."
"What d'you mean, congratulations?" said Harry, staring at Ron. There was definitely something wrong with the way Ron was smiling. It was more like a grimace.
"Well...no one else got across the Age Line," said Ron, "not even Fred and George. What did you use - the Invisibility Cloak?"
"The Invisibility Cloak wouldn't have got me over that line," said Harry slowly.
"Oh right," said Ron, "I thought you might've told me if it was the cloak...because it would've covered both of us, wouldn't it? But you found another way, did you?"
"Listen," said Harry, "I didn't put my name in that goblet. Someone else must've done it."
Ron raised his eyebrows.
"What would they do that for?"
"I dunno," said Harry. He felt it would sound very melodramatic to say, "to kill me."
Ron's eyebrows rose so high that they were in danger of disappearing into his hair.
"It's okay, you know, you can tell me the truth," he said, "if you don't want everyone else to know, fine, but I don't know why you're bothering to lie, you didn't get into trouble for it, did you? That friend of the Fat Lady's, that Violet, she's already told us all Dumbledore's letting you enter. A thousand Galleons prize money, eh? And you don't have to do end-of-year tests either."
"I didn't put my name in that goblet!" said Harry.
"Yeah, okay," said Ron, "well didn't you say yourself that you would've done it?"
Harry shook his head. "I'm not the only one who got in! So did Y/N! Why aren't you having a go at him then?"
"Why'd you have to bring me into this Harry?" I said exasperatedly. "Just because you can't handle a little bit of pressure and stress doesn't mean you have to dump it all on me!"
"Why are you having a go at me?" Harry said, a sense of anger in his voice.
"Because Harry, you can be a right self-centred git sometimes and you don't care about any of us, like earlier when they were just referring to you and not me and you didn't even bother to correct them. You weren't picked as the Hogwarts champion, I was. You were a fourth one, the odd one. You're only here because you're the Boy who Lived." I said, annoyance building up inside me.
"What the hell Y/N? You're still underaged and if anything, I'm the better champion out of the two of us. Who's the one who survived Voldemort? Me. Who's the one who's survived the killing curse? Me. Who's the one who sent Voldemort into hiding for thirteen years? Me."
"SHUT UP HARRY! IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU SOMETIMES!" I shouted. "I have feelings too and half the stuff you do it's luck anyway, you wouldn't even beat me in a duel!"
"Fine, I'll prove it by beating you in this tournament."
"Fine Harry, but don't regret it. Your two spells can only keep you alive for so long."
With that I dragged my covers over my head and ignored everyone.
When I woke up the next morning, it was late and everyone had already seemed to of gone to breakfast. I took my time in getting up and when I reached the Common Room, Hermione was waiting for me with some breakfast in hand.
"Hello," she said, holding up a stack of toast, which she was carrying in a napkin, "I brought you this. Want to go for a walk?"
"Good idea," I said gratefully.
We went downstairs, crossed the entrance hall quickly without looking in at the Great Hall, and were soon striding across the lawn toward the lake, where the Durmstrang ship was moored, reflected blackly in the water. It was a chilly morning, and we kept moving toast I told Hermione exactly what had happened after I had left the Gryffindor table the night before. To my immense relief, Hermione accepted my story without question.
"Well, of course I knew you hadn't entered yourself," she said when I had finished telling her about the scene in the chamber off the Hall.
I then also told her about what happened between me and Harry. She shook her head disapprovingly. "You two need to sort that out."
I shook my head. "No. I need to prove that I'm better than just Harry Potter's friend and I plan on doing that by establishing myself as the Hogwarts champion."
My plan was simple, I had to get the school on my side. Luckily for me, my older brother had a good reputation within the school and was willing to help me. Everyone would hopefully support me if they knew about my brother. He even had a couple friends in Slytherin that could influence their opinion of me. I knew it wasn't much but it was a good beginning.
Me and Hermione finished our walk and headed back inside where we witnessed Malfoy taunting Harry. Remembering what happened last night I turned and walked the opposite direction.
The Boy who Lived could stand up for himself, he didn't need the help of his other irrelevant friends.
