PROMISED LAND

ELENA AND ARIA WOKE up. Aria's head pounded in pain, and her eyes felt like they could pop out of her socket. She was tired, very, very tired.
When she looked to her left, Elena was sitting there looking white as a ghost. "Elena," Aria said, reaching for her twin's hand.

"You have... you have enough. Let us go," Aria said, as she struggled speaking.

"I'll have enough when you can no longer speak." Markos said.

So this was it, Aria thought. This was it. Markos leaves, and someone walks in the room. "Who's there?" "Shh. Get out of here." "Stefan," Aria said, when she thought she saw him. It really was him.

Stefan was there. "Aria."

-

Aria, Stefan, and Elena were walking in the middle of nowhere on a long, hot road. Sweat was dripping off of Aria's forehead. She was surprised she had any left. After being drained to death by every bit of blood she had left in her body. "Ohh. I feel like an idiot," Elena said, when she tried to hitch-hike as a car drove by.

"You're not an idiot, El," Aria said. "Ditto." Stefan said.

"Do that thing again. That vamp thing again." Elena said. "Oh, no. I don't want to do that. Come on. You know it's embarrassing." "Come on, Stef. It's the only thing keeping me sane right now." Aria said, running a hand through her hair. She took her hair and tied it in a long ponytail. "Sure," Stefan said. When Stefan did the vamp-thing Aria giggled, covering her mouth. "That was funnier the first time." Elena said.

"True." Aria said.

She kissed him softly on the lips, chuckling. "Yeah. Well, you were delirious the first time." "How many, uh, ahem... you know, are we supposed to have before we get our strength back?" Aria asked. "More than we've had, that's for sure. Let me know if you see a damn Buffalo." Aria chuckled. "Well, I'll keep an eye out for ya." "This is depressing," Elena sighed suddenly. There was nothing around them. It's like they were in an apocalypse and it was only them walking for hours. "Yeah. More depressing than walking for miles and not knowing where the hell you're going?" Stefan asked.

He read her mind. "No, probably not more depressing than that," Elena said. "Damon is full hero mode today," Stefan said. "I'm sure he was thrilled about that." Elena sighed. "I don't know. He had the whole saviour of the universe going on." "I like that voice. You know, maybe this whole thing is a sign." "A sign of what?" Aria asked. "My blood can literally destroy him. if that's not a sign that we're in a toxic relationship." She was saying. "Our blood," Aria pointed out. "She's right. Our blood. Don't hog the blame. Look. We're vampires. We're a toxic species. Whether you want to blame it on magic or biology, it's just who we are. When a human gets ravenously hungry, they eat a double cheeseburger. We kill people. Some of us are more extreme than others, but that's just who we are." "How come you're so much better at controlling it?" "Because I'm so much worse when I don't. I'm only gonna say this once. You two are miserable without each other, so if you want to be with him, just be with him. Look, when humans want to break free from complicated relationships, they go to therapy. Vampires get a pass. Ok? Come on."
