Detective in Love

Chapter 4

The house is quite dark. Wooden floors, family pictures hanging on the floral printed walls.

"Have a seat! Let me check on my kids and be right back!" She tells us.

"Sure!" Jason replies.
And after Katarina is gone, he turns to me.

"You read the files didn't you? Apparently her husband was dating Monica Adler, her best friend John's wife." He explains.

"Her best friend's wife??? That's messed up!"

"I know!"

She joins us again in the living room.

"Thank you for being here!" She thanks us, while taking a seat.

"It's our job." Jason responds.
"Can you tell us what exactly happened?"

"My husband was a good man, he loved our kids truly. He fell out of our love. True! But for the sake of our kids we decided to stay together despite all that. He took care of me! He did." She starts tearing up.

"So you knew that he was dating Monica Adler?" Jason questions her.

"I did. But he later told me that he'd stop it. And I believe he did. No idea how true it is!" She responds.

"You do realise that this is a bit of a confusing case. Don't you Miss Katarina? We'll do everything in our power to find out how his death happened." Jason gives further explanations.

And true, what a confusing case it is!

"I know it's confusing, but please for the sake of my children I beg you investigate this. I didn't go to the cops, I've heard that your firm helps people solve cases, even the ones cops usually tend to drop. You always find the root cause of things. Thank you! Thank you for trying!"

"It's our job. Don't thank us!"
Jason replies.

We take her signature on a few documents.
And we leave.

At JM, our firm, we are a group of lawyers who act as detectives as well. We get the cases cops usually don't. Miss Katarina for instance, if she went to the cops she could be considered a prime suspect causing harm for her family, including her kids.
But we take slow measures. Dig up the whole truth.

"Wanna take up the case?" Jason asks me.

"What do you mean?"

"We have to put forward one of our lawyers to defend our client. How would you like to do it?"

"Won't it be a problem?"

"Why would it be?" He answers me with a question and a smile orrrrr a smirk. Whichever! And he opens the car door for me.

We leave to our office again.
As soon as we enter through the door, Jerome comes running.

"There's been another one!" He exclaims, gasping for breath.

Everyone around us runs to the conference room, right behind Jerome.
Christine and Jason does the same.
So do I.

"Who is it now?" Jason asks.
Looking at the screen, pictures of two young girls and two young boys.

"Jessica Montgomery, 16 years old, goes to Fonmont high, last seen by her best friend, Alicia. Said she was going home. But she never made it back. Was found lying dead by an old woman named Grace. She phoned us."
Allie explains.

"Found where?" I finally decide to speak.

"There's a lake by the Direive park. There."

I nod at her response.

Jason hands me a file from the desk.
"Go through this."

I take it from him.

"Allie and Jerome, you will go to Andrew's school, get information about him, also about Celene. Christine and Eric, check with the schools of Elena and Thomas. Their friends as well. Since we already have Mr. Wilson's case, we'll take Jessica. Nigella you're with me. Let's move!" He commands.
Everyone nods and does as they're asked to.

So off we go! To Jessica's school.

"Do some of the talking this time." Jason tells me, running his hands through his hair, with that smile again. Damn it!

"Sure!" I respond, looking up to his face.
Especially since he's tall!
