Detective in Love

Chapter 7

"This is where her body was found." Jason points at the small area surrounded with yellow "Do not enter crime scene" flags.

We both bend down to take a better look. There's nothing. No clue! No trace!

"This park has got CCTV cameras everywhere except through this entrance. Right?" I ask him.

"Yea that's right!"

"What if she wasn't killed here?" I say. Getting back on my feet and walking.
Jason follows me.

There are no cameras until the "Joy's Toy store."

Jason takes out his phone from his black coat pocket and types something on it.

"That building, that's where he keeps his tuitions. But look at that, there are no CCTV cameras until that store right there. Someone could've easily murdered these kids in that building and disposed their bodies elsewhere. The park for instance." Jason explains.
"More importantly, look at this!"

I take a look at the screen.
"Wait! So we have to be right! All these bodies were found in the nearby places right?" I ask him.

"Yes. But also places with easy access. They got no CCTVs in these places anyways." He responds.

"I have a hunch." I tell him.

"I do too." Jason replies. "Only one way to find out!"

We head towards the building.
Fourth floor, where he conducts his tuitions, do certain inspections and leave to the office.

"So what's the plan?" Jerome asks.

"Nigella's got an idea. Right Nigella?" Jason responds, looking at me.

"Yea! So here's the plan." Whether or not it'll be a success, I tell them my plan.

"See ya!" Eric screams, leaving to the door.
We call it a day, with a mission waiting for tomorrow.
I get in my car and leave.

After work
I live with my roommate Niv, short for Nivera. As soon as I get back home she rushes to the door and opens the door for me.
"Woah! All okay?" I ask her, shocked.

"No??? Giddy up! It's 7 already, the party starts at 7:30!!" She shouts at me.

Oh wait! She is dressed in a short maroon lace dress with long sleeves, her blonde hair tied up in a bun. She looks pretty as always.

"What party?" I ask her.

"Do you ever check your phone? I knew it when you didn't respond to me yesterday." She adds.

"Yesterday?"

"I told you before we went to bed. You were busy with some maps on your desk, you didn't even hear me! Check your phone will you?" She responds angrily.

I take out my phone to notice the 2860 new messages from a group named "Reunion".

"Reunion?" I ask her.

"Come inside. Get dressed while I tell you." At least she's calmed down a bit.

Phew!

"Go take a shower. I'll keep your clothes ready." She tells me.

"Fine! Do choose something nice!" I reply.

Somehow these days feel longer than the rest. I'm honestly not in the mood for a party with a big day at work tomorrow and all the thinking I'd done in one day makes me feel tired. But I couldn't possibly disappoint Niv.
Hence the compromising!

When I come out of the washroom, I see my black body con dress with long sleeves and a deep neck. Next to the dress on my bed is a pair of black velvet shoes.
That's not mine!

Niv is seated on the stool before my mirror applying eyeliner I assume.

"Niv these sho-" before I can complete she interrupts me.

"Yea they are new." She gets up and walks up to me. "I got my first pay cheque. So I got these for you." she grins.

"Niv it's beautiful. Seriously! Thank you!!" I hug her.

"You know you're five minutes late right?" She replies.

"Shoot! Gimme 5 minutes."

She laughs at this. And heads out.
I put on the dress and the brand new pair of shoes.

There's a whole concept we believe in. Me and Niv. It's important you choose the perfect pair of shoes, you walk in them, with confidence. Wherever you go, this is what takes you there.
I know... Dramatic!
But seeing things this way is sometimes the best feeling. Because we find a reason to be happy that way.

I put on some mascara, and a bit of lip balm. Not big on make up.

When we get to the venue, it's crowded with familiar faces. Burst of laughter, loudly played songs.
Seeing my old friends again, brings a smile on my face. And I'm partly glad I made it. Despite how tired I am.

"Nigey!!!" I hear someone scream. I turn around to spot Sean running towards me.

Sean, my best friend from High School, and even College.
He flew to the UK afterwards.

"Sean what are you doing here?" I ask him as he pulls me into a hug.

I'm surprised to see him.

"Thought I'd surprise you." He laughs.

"Well you did succeed with that!" I reply.

Sean is tall and he's got short curly hair. He's wearing a black shirt neatly tucked under his trouser.

Wait... Is that Jason?

The crowd starts cheering as Jason makes through the door.
Back in high school he was the basketball team's captain.
"King of the school" he was.

"Still the pride remains huh?" I can hear Niv say.

I work with him! This isn't as simple as it looks. Ex best friends who turned into adversaries, sorta, and now colleagues. It is awkward! Trust me!

Wonder what a night this shall be!
