Strengths and Secrets

I wake up feeling tired like i had been run over by a bus, my head hurts to even turn it, i squint my eyes looking up and realise that I am in my room on my bed and then my memories come flooding back.

With a scream i sit up from the bed ignoring my splitting head ache frantically looking around my room for my mom,

'Mom?, mom where are you? '

'Am here honey', she says as i see her coming out of my bathroom towards me with a wet towel in her hands and a reassuring look on her face.

I notice that her eyes are sad as she looks at me.

'Mom are you alright?'

She chuckles and replies; 'of course I am',
She touches my face and leans in to kiss my forehead then she smiles sitting on the edge of my bed and asks;

'How do you feel?'

' am ok just a little headache, (talk about understatement) it's you am worried about.

She laughs at this and says;
'its not like am the one who passed out, and yet its sweet of you to still worry about me'.

Suddenly that same sad look comes back into her eyes, it hurt to maintain eye contact with her but I try.

She takes a deep breath and lets out a heavy sigh and says;

'Honey I have to tell you something and i want you to understand that neither i nor your father ever wanted this for you',

'I need you to know that we both loved you so much and never planned for any of this to happen and we definitely didn't plan to keep this from you for so long,'

She takes in another breath;

'We were going to explain it all to you when you turned 18, we wanted you to have as much a normal life as possible', we-

I grab her hands that she has been squeezing the wet towel nervously with and look straight into her eyes with as much warmth as i could muster;

'Mom i dont doubt that you and dad love me and i dont blame whatever's happened on either of you , '

'I know you only want to protect me and i love you but you have to know that i also want to protect you too.'

I take a calming breath and nod my head and say;

' Whatever it is that you and dad were waiting to tell me at 18,'

Cocking my head to the side with a small smile--

' you might as well tell me now with all things considered ' .

My mom smiles and nods her head.

' i dont know what i did but am sure glad to have an amazing daughter like you.'

Suddenly both our eyes start to water as we share the moment together.

A few seconds pass before my mom clears her throat, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand she scoots into bed with me and pulls me into a side cuddle and hugs me tight and then she says;

'I never thought i would have to do this without your father but i guess now i have to'

'Hmm...'

Then she  starts to tell me the story from the beginning.

'First of all you should know you are stronger than you think. '

I look up at her and scuff at the irony of her words shaking my head and she smiles and continues;
