Days went by. Days where i cried holding the letter in my hands. Slowly sadness became anger. I don't know how, but i hated him for leaving. He had a brother all this time? How could he keep something like that away from me? Where had he been all that time? Why didn't i know?
My parents and I were sitting at the table eating dinner.
"Sweetie, we have something to say!" my mum says, and looks at my dad.
There was a weird tension between them. They were giving each other weird looks.
"What?" i ask.
I look at them both confusingly.
"Harish is coming over tonight. He forgot some things when he moved out, and i want you to give them to him." my mum says.
"Why can't you guys give it to him?" i ask them and continues to eat.
My mum looks at my dad.
"Did something happen, honey?" my dad asks.
"Nope, nothing. I just think it's better if i don't see him," i say not looking at my parents.
"Okay...but you have to sweetie. Your mum and I have a meeting tonight, so you'll have to." my dad says, and takes a sip of his water.
"Are you guys serious? I told you i don't wanna see him," i shout.
"Hey! Calm down! You don't have a choice. You're gonna do it." my dad says raising his voice.
I sigh irritated.
I continue to eat.
An hour later...
A weird knot was growing in my stomach. It made me feel nervous. I decided to just give him the box of things, and then finish it. Nothing else.
I couldn't stop thinking about him. I played the scene in my head of how it was gonna be. It kept playing on reply.
Suddenly the bell rang.
I ran over to the door. I stood in front of the door taking a deep breath before opening.
Then i opened...
I saw Harish standing there wet because of the rain outside. I didn't say anything, so i quickly ran over to the table, and took the box, and gave it to him.
"Here, that's all..." i say, and reach the box.
He takes the box from my hand.
"Divya....i...." Harish let's out.
"I have homework to do, so i better..." i say while closing the door. As i had closed the door i felt my breath became quicker. I tried to take deep breaths, but it was hard. Tears ran down my cheek.
I sat down by the door.
Suddenly the whole in the door for the newspaper opened.
"Divya i know you're still there. Can we just talk, please?" Harish asks and tries to look through the hole.
I quickly move away so he can't see me.
"I'm busy, okay?" i say in a different voice so he doesn't hear that I'm crying.
"I just want to apologize," Harish says.
"For what? For lying to me about your brother? Where is he now? Why didn't you just tell him to come to pick up your things? You made it really clear that we were done." I say angrily.
