They asked me what I saw in the dark, I saw all. I saw my wretched soul screaming for mercy, I saw my bastard heart struggling to beat, I saw my sniveling cowardice thriving in the shadows. They asked me why I came out of the darkness changed, it is because I saw what I really was in the dark. With no light to cover the cracks I saw it all, all of the disgusting rot and ruin, the shame and guilt pouring like rotting oil over anything that shone bright enough to see.
With no soul to guide me I saw everything they hid from me, the fear, the disgusting stench of a stagnant ray of hope. So when you ask me what I saw in the dark, I saw myself.
