I awoke on the floor of a dirty bathroom and my clothes and the floor around me were splattered with blood. I found a wallet near my right foot, I stretched over to grab it. I looked inside it to find a photograph of a man, a women and two children. I walked around the window to avoid being seen, to the mirror so I could see if I looked remotely like anyone in the photo. I was surprised to see how much blood was on my face. I started to wonder how it got on me and looked around my body for any cuts or flesh wounds but found nothing. Just dried up blood that apparently did not belong to me. A lot of blood. I washed my face with the murky water which came out of the tap and looked in the mirror again but could see no resemblance to anyone in the photo. I didn't know who those people in the photo were, where the blood came from and how I got in this bathroom. I couldn't remember anything. Not who I was, not where I lived. Nothing. All I wanted to know was what happened and why I couldn't remember anything. I needed to know and at that moment, I was ready to do anything to help me remember anything.
I gazed outside the bathroom window and saw that I was in a house on what seemed to be a normal street. People were walking their dogs, gardening and chatting to their neighbours. I thought of how something so strange could be happening to me on such an average street. I decided that it couldn't be anything but a dream, that I'd be waking up any second and that I'd be able to remember who I was. This wasn't the reality I was prepared to accept so I closed my eyes. I told myself to wake up. Needless to say, it wasn't a dream.
I changed my clothes into something that was in the closet of the house I was in and that didn't have blood stains on it. I threw my bloodied clothes away. As soon as I got to the front door, I thought I was going to stick out like a sore thumb. Everyone was going to notice this strange girl exiting another persons home. But to my disbelief, people were nodding their heads at me, in acknowledge. They seemed to know me, smiling or greeting me as I walked passed them. I had no idea who any of them were and I had to pretend as if I knew them. I returned all their smiles and greetings. Right at that moment, the man from the photo came up to me and blocked my path.
He said, "Hey Jas, I was wondering if you have seen Marina since dinner last night."
I was panicking. I had no idea what to say. I stood there for awhile, looking at him in confusion.
"No I haven't, but if I do, I'll be sure to let you know," I replied. I smiled politely and kept on walking. I didn't give him time to respond because if I did, I would have been forced to continue talking to him without knowing who he was and how and I had a photo of him and his family. I didn't look back.
After I had been walking for half an hour, I realized that I didn't know where I was headed. I could see a forest in the distance. A forest with huge pine trees, spanning over what seemed hundreds of acres. I didn't know whether to keep walking or head back to my house. I felt hands on my shoulders, but before I could turn to see who it was, the person put a bag over my head. I couldn't see anything. I was scared. Screaming while I was being dragged by someone. I was too weak to fight the person or people off of me. I felt a painful prick on my shoulder. My eyes were closing. Drifting to sleep.
I felt a hard slap across my face and I was awake again. My face was stinging and I was confused. I tried to scream to get someone to help me but I realised that my mouth was taped shut. I looked down and saw that I was tied to a chair. There was a woman and two rather muscular men standing beside her.
She greeted me, "Welcome back, Jas! We've all missed you so much." Welcome back? I looked at her strangely.
She turned to the men and said, "Oh silly old me, I forgot to ask you to remove the tape from her mouth." she then turned to me, "But you have to promise you won't scream if they take off the tape. I won't stand for screaming in here." I nodded my head almost as a promise. The man with the dark hair walked up to me and ripped the tape off of my mouth. I scrunched up my face from the pain because I didn't want to scream.
She said, "That's a lot better. Now I don't have to do much of the talking anymore. I can bet that you don't even remember me or the place we are in."
I replied sarcastically, "Well not really, no. Would you be so kind as to inform me?"
"I won't have that tone. I prefer to be talked to with a nicer tone. Anyway, my name is Raina. I'm the reason you are alive right now."
"Why can't I remember anything? And you still haven't told me where we are."
"I'm afraid that is classified. But you need to continue with your task," She said while walking out of the room. When she completed her sentence, I could remember everything. Who I was, the people in the photograph and what I had done. Blood. A lot if it, pouring out her body. I started to cry.
I shouted so she could hear me, "Fuck you! How can you do that to me? How could you let me kill her?" She never turned back to respond or to even look at me. I was fighting against the restraints. The other man held me down while the one with the dark hair waddled over with a needle and a tube filled with a opaque blue liquid.
He said to me in a monotonous tone, "You'll be needing this. Good luck" He stuck the needle into the visible vein in my arm and squeezed so the the liquid went through. I tried to fight it. I failed.
