Life is very short and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again
WE CAN WORK IT OUT the beatles"Roxy, get up," Mam shouted, "We're supposed to be at uncle Noel's in half an hour."
I groaned, kicking off the sheets and rolling out of bed. It was way too early for this shit, especially since I had been out all night and only been home a few hours.
I dragged myself out of bed and had a shower, not bothering to wash my hair. After I dried my body, I put moisturiser on my face and put on a black bikini. Sonny and Donovan were little shits (I still loved them to bits) and always squirted me with the hose pipe when we were out in the garden. I was one step ahead this time. I threw on a pair of ripped denim shorts and a loose Royal Blood t-shirt over my bikini. I hurried downstairs with my sunglasses on top of my head, and my phone and a pack of cigarettes in my hand.
Mam was stood at the bottom of the stairs with her arms crossed and a face like thunder. I slipped my sliders on and headed for the front door with Mam still stood in her original spot. I turned back to look at her.
"Come on, were supposed to be at uncle Noel's now," I told her, repeating her words from earlier with a grin on my face, before I opened the door and walked next door.
"I'm home kids," I called as I stepped into uncle Noel's house.
Little footsteps came through the house before I was engulfed in a hug from Sonny, shortly followed by Donovan.
"Hey my little darlings," I smiled, kneeling down to kiss them both on the forehead.
"Where's aunty Jen?" Donovan asked me.
"She's coming in a minute," I told him, "She's not happy with me because I went out last night."
"Naughty Roxy, you should have listened to aunty Jen," Sonny told me, making me laugh slightly.
"I should have," I replied, getting back up from the floor as the front door opened, "I'll see you kids in a bit."
"I thought I heard voices," aunty Sara said as I walked into the kitchen.
"Yeah sorry, I was talking to the boys," I told her, giving her a hug.
"It's alright sweetie. Drink?" She asked me, to which I agreed.
She passed me a bottle of Budweiser from the fridge on the other side of the kitchen.
"Oh before I forget, we're having a party this afternoon. I should imagine your uncle Noel's forgot to tell you," aunty Sara told me while she poured herself a glass of Prosecco.
"He must have. I was out last night, hence the state," I said, gesturing to my face and clothes, "That's why she's got the face on," I added in a low voice.
"It's alright, you and Anaïs can always nip back to yours and get changed in a bit," aunty Sara suggested before she raised her glass, "Cheers."
"Cheers."
"Oi blue eyes!" I heard a voice shout from behind me.
"Lil Annie G!" I shouted back, running up to her and hugging her.
"I've missed you bitch," Anaïs said.
She had been back home in England with her mam for the past few months, meaning I hadn't seen her since May. Mam and I always spent the whole summer out here in the States, May until the end of August, not that I was complaining.
"I missed you too twat face," I grinned.
"Let's get ready," Anaïs pulled my arm.
"Now?" I asked her.
"Yeah," she replied, picking up my beer bottle.
"Let me just say hi to your dad," I told her as I headed for the open door that led to the garden, "Don't drink my bud."
"Well, well, well, if it ain't our Smokey," uncle Noel said standing up from his chair.
I rolled my eyes at his nickname for me. Apparently I "smoked like a chimney" hence the nickname.
"Nice to see you uncle Noel," I smiled, hugging him and kissing his cheek.
"Party later?" He asked me.
"You could've at least told me before," I pouted, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it.
"Sorry kid, I thought I did," uncle Noel said.
"Well I'm being dragged back home to get ready," I rolled my eyes jokingly, taking my cigarette from my mouth.
"Oh well, I'll see you sometime next week then?" uncle Noel laughed, pretending you look at his watch.
"Sounds about right. You know what Anaïs is like," I laughed, blowing the smoke from my mouth.
"Smokey," Anaïs called from the back door.
"Well that's me gone," I said, "I'll see you in a bit."
"See you kid," uncle Noel said.
I was dragged back home and upstairs to my bedroom.
"Right have a shower, wash your hair, dry it and we can pick some clothes," Anaïs told me, pushing me into my bathroom.
"Can you at least put some music on?" I whined.
I heard Come On Over by Royal Blood play loudly from my bedroom.
"Thank you," I called out before switching on the shower, stripping down and stepping under the running water.
I washed my body and shampooed my hair, and made sure I shaved my legs. After rinsing the raspberry and mint scented shampoo and conditioner from my hair, I stepped out of the shower and wrapped my towel around my body. I dried my hair on a smaller towel and wrapped it up on top of my head before I left the bathroom.
"I'm done," I told Anaïs who was busy going through my wardrobe.
"What are you wearing then?" Anaïs asked as I sat down on my windowsill and lit a cigarette.
"Dunno, I'll probably stick that Royal Blood top back on and a pair of jeans," I shrugged, leaning back on the window behind me.
"You can wear the top but you need to show of those legs of yours," Anaïs said, slapping my thighs.
"Alright then, is my leather skirt in there?" I asked her.
"You mean this one?" Anaïs said, holding up the leather skirt in question.
"Yep," I nodded, "Pick out my shoes for me."
"These?" Anaïs asked me, holding up a pair of red stilettos.
"They're not comfy," I complained.
"Alright, these?" She asked, holding up a pair of patent black Valentino heels with studs on.
"They'll do," I said.
"I'm doing your hair and makeup. Get your dressing gown on," she told me as she rooted through my underwear drawer, "Stick them in your pocket and you can get ready at dad's. Don't forget your jewellery," she threw me a matching black lacy set.
I did as I was told, throwing my cigarette out of the window as Anaïs put my t-shirt and skirt on hangers.
"Ready?" I asked her after I had put my sliders back on.
"Ready," she told me, picking up my heels.
