My morning started normal enough.
My name's Kaeda Lewis and I'm walking the halls of my university, looking for my bestfriend who was supposed to wait for me at the gates but alas, she has other plans.
I spotted her curly blonde hair disappearing under one of the stairs and I rushed for her. When I was about to reach the stairs, my face started to redden as I hear soft, muffled moans coming from my bestfriend.
I immediately scramble backwards to give them space.
A tight knot starts to form on my gut. I wasn't sure what I was feeling but it's definitely not a good one. I somewhat felt betrayed. I wasn't aware that my own bestfriend was seeing anybody. I know she could be secretive but, to this extent?
I was snapped out of my thoughts when I saw one of my professors walked past me to use the stairs where my bestfriend was at, snogging.
In that short moment my brain battled itself. I was feeling betrayed and not trusted by my own bestfriend, but she is my bestfriend.
I mentally scolded myself. This is a false dillema, I'm not going to get my bestfriend in trouble, so I quickly stepped in.
"Excuse me, Prof. Roberts. Would you mind explaining the difference of a play to a theatre act?" Prof. Roberts looked at me darkly. I sweat, what kind of question was that? I'm such an idiot. Later, when I get out of this alive, I'll make sure to burn myself alive for this humiliation.
"Are you serious with that question, Miss Lewis? Or should I create an extensive powerpoint presentation just to satisfy your lowly brain?" I stood frozen in my place. Oh dear, this is not going well. Mr. Roberts is dubbed as the Department's Snape for a reason.
Before I could ponder an answer I heard footsteps coming up from the stairs and my best friend's blonde head bops it's way to our place.
"Oh, goodmorning Professor! Oh hi, Kaeda!" Kristy said smiling from ear to ear. She walked to us alone. Despite my predicament, I can't help wondering where her boyfriend is.
Kristy immediately grabs hold of my elbow and dragged me away from our Professor's stern glare while waving and smiling at him.
Once we got to our first subject she sat me down near the middle of the wall where windows are lined.
Her smiley face became stern once she made sure there wasn't anyone near enough to over hear our conversation.
"What was that about, Kae?" I sighed a long sigh and rest my back against the wall.
"A 'thank you' would've been fine, y'know". Her eyes narrowed and she pulled a puzzled face. "For saving your ass earlier, idiot." My words came out a bit harsher than I anticipated and her face immediately contorted to one that looked like she had been punched in the face.
"Oh that was called saving? You acting like an idiot in front of Roberts? To be honest, it looks like I was the one who saved you." We stared each other down, the start of a tension building around us. I don't like it when I fight with people who I care about a lot that's why I backed down and sighed again.
"Y'know you could've told me you were seeing someone." Her face immediately looked guilty. I stared at her for a long time but she couldn't even meet my eyes.
I waited.
Finally she plucked up the courage and looked at me with big pleading eyes.
"Oh, Im such an idiot, Kae." My bestfriend is one of the people I looked up to the most. She's strong, she's level headed and mostly held a charming easy going personalty. Seeing her like this, with her eyes starting to water and her lips trembling. I knew I should brace myself for what she was about to say to me.
"I'm sorry I kept this from you, but I can't help it. I couldn't stop myself and believe me please, I tried." she started fiddling with her bracelets. Seeing her like this is so foreign, so unlike her. What could she have done?
"What is it? Just say it please, you're making me nervous." I told her softly and she nods, slightly trembling.
"It's Jake. Jake Simmons." Oh, it's Jake, Jake Simmons. Huh, okay.
Kristy stared at me, waiting for a reaction. I don't know how to react. What can I say?
Jake Simmons, first time I saw him roam this building I knew for sure he was the one. With his head full of sandy blonde hair, lean build and startling blue eyes he's the man of my dreams, literally. I've been dreaming about him ever since, and I was vocal about it to Kristy. And here she is, snogging the man under the stairs.
I consider him my first true love, if I wasn't so insecure about the way I looked I would've gathered all my confidence and asked him out myself, but I knew I was out of his league, I'm no good for him. But, I feel betrayed...
"Kae please say something." She pleaded.
"Didn't you said, the first time I told you I liked him that you would try to set us up?" She promised me that once she new everything about his preferences then she would help me dress up and all of that shit. But now.
"I know, I'm sorry. Kae, I'm sorry I didn't mean it. I was serious about being your wingman but things started to change and he-" I cut her off, I don't want to hear about it.
"Kae please don't be mad at me. I don't-I can't loose you." I softened up, Im still mad, I still felt betrayed, but I can't hold this against her. He wasn't mine in the first place. She did nothing wrong, but that doesn't mean I'll get over this quickly.
"Kristy, I'm mad, no- I'm Furious." She fliched at the word. "But im not going to hold this against you." Tears she kept imprisoned slowly starts to fall from her face and she began to mouth a thanks.
"I'd rather support you than go against you. Kristy, you're my bestfriend for more than six years. I won't let a single guy ruin everything we built, and I hope you wouldn't too." She started to say sorry again.
"But I hope you'd understand if I'm not so keen in listening to you talk about him, just give me time please, I'm still trying to wrap my mind about this."
She nods and reached her hands for me, enveloping me in a tight hug. She whispers me a 'thank you', I squeezed her tight in return and allowed my eyes to close, releasing a single tear to roll down.
