Waking up in a hospital room, the white ceiling above my eyes was the first thing I saw. I blinked my eyes for a moment, hoping to see my family around me. Looking over my shoulder, I saw my sister sitting in a chair. She looked like she had spent the night. I wondered if she had been by my side the entire time.
My sister's eyes spotted me. "Can you hear me?"
Her voices echoed in my ears. A smile sparked across my face, making my cheeks burn for a moment. I guess some parts of my face were bruised. But I had a strange feeling my sister really wanted me to say something.
A doctor walked into the room. He rushed towards the chart on the bottom of my hospital bed. Checking over the chart on the clipboard, the doctor headed towards the machine next to me. He seemed to be making sure I was alright. I guessed he knew something I didn't.
"Yes." I told my sister.
The doctor told my sister. "He might not be able to respond right now. We have to wait a little longer."
I felt confused as I told them, again. "But I already said..."
My sister's voice echoed in my head. "Can you hear us?"
"Yeah." I smiled at her. "What happened."
Looking at the doctor, my sister let out a sigh. The doctor headed out of the room. Sliding open, the door to my hospital room opened for the doctor to leave. I watched as my sister looked at me with a worried frown on her perfect face. She was trying to look brave for me.
Beside my sister, standing at attention was her partner, Cavan. He placed his hand onto the back of her chair. A smile sparked across Cavan's face, as he saw my eyes.
"There was a young officer, who had a tracker on someone we thought were a part of the rebellion." Cavan asked me. "And we wanted to know if you sent the hack out, before we know it was you?"
I sighed. "What do you mean?"
"We saw the hacker take over the network, for a little while." My sister told me. "Do you know anything about the hacker?"
"Can people even do that?" I tried to play clueless to what she was saying. "I thought only mom and dad had that kind of access?" My sister looked over at her partner. "And only if something shocking happened to the city." I thought she would try to deflect my question. "Where is everyone else?"
"They are on their way." She knew what I meant. " But our ace tracker traced a signal to your laptop before you got hit by a car."
Cavan asked me. "Where were you before the accident?"
"I was on my way home from school." I looked over at my sister. "You do know that I am allowed to walk on the sidewalk, if I wish." I knew she was hinting at me being the hacker. "Lily, are you accusing me of being with the rebellion?"
"Yes." My sister nodded her head.
"That's rich." I crossed my hands over my chest, squinting as my skin was hurt from the accident. "How would I even do something like that?"
Lily looked to be angry with me. She shook her head at the thought in her head. I thought it was because of how I was acting, like I was deflecting her question. But I was really trying to have some fun with her.
"Well." She told me. "The signal did come from your laptop. We can prove that much."
"My laptop." I tried to sound surprised.
"So." My sister told me. "I gave it to the lab. They found only your figure prints were on it."
"How is that possible?" I tried to play along.
