chapter nine:
pep!»»»»»
mariposa tightened the laces on her sneakers and she prepared for a jog around the track before track practice.
"hey um- posie?" someone called from behind her. she turned around to see sia.
"yeah that's me," she replied, unsure of what the girl wanted to say. ever since track started the girl was nothing but mean to mariposa, even though she had to be one of the worst on the team. she always found a a way to criticize posie, yet the older girl still continued to ignore her.
sia sighed, "i wanted to say that i'm sorry"
posie raised an eyebrow, "okay.."
"i'm only mean to you because i'm jealous. on monday i knew you weren't new, i knew you were first last year" sia explained, "my friends thought it was cool that i was being mean, then they saw how bad i was at running and now all of a sudden they say they're going to talk to coach about getting me off the team"
"high school girls can be mean, huh?" mariposa said, looking the short blonde directly in the eyes.
"yeah, yeah i know. i just- i wanted to be the best at something, but i realize now that i won't achieve that by trying to bring you down. i'm really sorry posie,"
"don't worry, i forgive you. and why don't i help you try and get back at them? i can give you some tips and train you during practices if you want?"
a smile grew on sia's face, "really, you would help me?"
"of course, c'mon let's start now"

posie tightened the scrunchie in her hair as she got ready for the pep rally at home. she couldn't help but remember all the times her and polly would get ready in the vixen locker room, checking each others hair and adjusting their uniforms. and how before any game or performance all three of them, -jason, polly and posie- would show up at school together and leave to pops straight after it was over.
mariposa, polly and jason filled a booth at pops once again, this time even more elated than the night before.
"you guys were impeccable tonight! i mean 33-7" posie exclaimed, taking a sip of her coffee.
"i know right, i fried my vocal chords i was cheering so much!" polly agreed, beaming brightly.
"i think it was because of you guys. like posie said, you guys are my lucky charms" jason smirked, eliciting laughs from both blondes.
posie sighed. she missed it all of it. but she knew she wasn't going to get it back.
she walked over to AJ's side of the room and picked up the little baby. now fully in her vixen uniform, she sat in the windowsill, rocking her daughter gently.
"oh my adelaine, i wish you could meet your dad and your auntie. they would love every bit of you i just know it. being back at school is so weird conejita. nothing feels the same. i think it might be because of what you have taught me, and believe me i am so grateful, but sometimes i wonder what it would be like if everything had stayed the same"

by the end of the pep rally, mariposa was soaking wet. but just like so long ago, her throat was sore and her voice was almost lost while cheering for the bull dogs. seeing archie in jason's jersey was weird, but she managed.
all in all, she just felt happy to be doing something normal for once.
"hey veronica!" she exclaimed running over to the raven haired girl.
"hey posie what's up,"
"i was wondering if you're in the mood for an investigation? kevin and luca are already in, that just leaves you and evie"
"what kind of investigation?" veronica wondered, thinking it might be about jason.
"my mom never told us who our dad was, and i think your mom gave us a lead. do you want to help us"
veronica smirked, "i'd love to, who's evie?"
"a friend of mine. you'll like her. i just- i don't want betty to get wind of this. she has so much on her plate already, i don't want to bombard her" posie explained.
"you have my word" veronica replied.
betty came over to where they were standing.
"do you guys want to get a milkshake at pops?"

posie worked on some math problems during her free period. junior year was definitely going to be difficult, but she knew she'd do well if she worked hard. having a daughter definitely didn't make it any easier, but she was grateful to have christian looking after AJ.
suddenly, sheriff keller, the principal and another officer walked past where she was sitting in the hall. she stared at them for a few seconds before firing back to her work.
that was odd. maybe something new turned up in jason's case. her heart hurt thinking about it.
but not as much as her heart hurt when she saw cheryl walking back with them, in handcuffs, and looking guilty as ever.
"cheryl?" posie wondered, not able to take her eyes off of her.
cheryl shook her head, "posie, i'm sorry"

this chapter was literally all over the place but that's two episode done so that's nice.
since i'm not in school from the virus, i will have more time to write. also this chapter is shorter than i normally do, but i really needed to wrap this ep up. also the part in italics is like a flashback from the story i was writing before this one that was called butterflies. i'm probably going to revisit that one once i finish this one. it will be a prologue.
hope you enjoyed!
edit: i am so sorry! i completely forgot to update this so this chapter has been sitting for days.
