PROLOUGE

Hearing a crowd of thousands singing back lyrics he wrote were once what he lived and breathed for. His veins were once electric wires when the concert ended. The buzzing from the speakers once rung in his ears, he never even minded the never ending headaches. The energy in his body was once unstoppable. He once felt like he was on top of the world.

But now he hated it all.

He wanted it all to end. He didn’t want to be known as “Luke Hemmings! Can I get a picture with you?” He wanted to live a normal life. He wanted to walk down the street and be another face without a name. He wanted to live freely.

He didn’t want to be famous. But then he met her. She made him proud of being who he was.

He met a girl with hair darker than shadows that trailed down the sidewalk behind them. It was pouring down rain and he still didn’t know her first name, only her last. McKinnon. She mumbled on about how she hated this city and how all her friends didn’t give a fuck. Luke was listening to every single word that poured out of her mouth like the cold rain falling from the sky.

She hated London. She wanted to move to New York.

The street lights illuminated her pale skin against her soaking wet cargo jacket. They both had no idea where they were heading but all Jessica McKinnon cared about was that Luke Hemmings was listening. She could care less about the fact that he was in a band. She did quite like the idea of him being famous. She treated him like any other person though. All she really cared about was that someone was listening to her.

She wanted to be noticed and she wanted to be loved. She craved attention but not in the way where she would do outrageous stuff. She wanted to sing, she wanted to feel worth something.

She wanted to be famous. But then she met him. He made her proud of whom she was.

When he met the girl with dark blue nail polish and ripped blue jeans, she claimed she bought them like that but the scars on her thighs told a different story.

Jessica McKinnon refused to admit she was unhappy. It was a cry for help and she knew that, but she didn’t want the help. She wanted to get through it all on her own. She was too damn stubborn to ask for anything. She hated people pitying her and she hated people taking time out of their busy lives to put her first instead of herself like she had always done for others.

She didn’t understand she needed it.

When he met the girl with dark blue eyes and unforgiving frown he knew instantly he wanted nothing more than to see a smile on her face. He felt as if she needed someone to listen to and he planned to be that person.

Jessica didn’t want anything to do with Luke when they met. She didn’t even want him to breathe in her presence most of the time. She was so used to pushing everyone away and shutting people out he’d be no different, but Luke didn’t budge.

When they met each other, Jessica didn’t have an empty space in her bed that night. All her tears were dried and a smile was slowly creeping across her face.

  No, they didn’t have sex.

  He just listened.
