CHAPTER ONE

The morning after Jessica met Luke when she woke up with to the scent of cologne and a body pressed up against her with an arm slung tightly over her waist she realized this could be the start of something.

She struggled out of his grip and quietly walked out of the room without making a sound, leaving the blond haired boy alone to sleep.

Walking down the dark hallway of her apartment to the living room, she sat quietly on the black leather couch with her hands in her lap. She stared out the large window, viewing the sunrise like she did every morning.

She wished she was in New York.

Jessica McKinnon was a paradox. She was neither happy nor was she sad. She smiled at pretty things and laughed at funny things. But late at night she became a mess of emotions and thoughts and wished she could just disappear.

But the night before, she never felt more alive.

Counting the colors in the sky, she was broke out of her thoughts when a shirtless boy sat down beside her. They sat in silence. It was 6:24am. Jessica sat cross legged on the couch. She looked at Luke who was already staring at her. His hair was messy and he looked tired and worn out. As if Jessica looked any better.

But Luke thought otherwise.

He liked how her dark messy hair sprawled out across her shoulders. He liked how she had a few faint freckles scattered across her nose and cheeks. He liked that she didn’t look like a model even though in his eyes she very well could be. He enjoyed the fact that she didn’t have a gap between her thighs, just a gap between her teeth. She looked like art. Art wasn’t perfect and neither was she and that’s all that mattered to Luke.

“Why are you awake?” He asked quietly, breaking the silence.

“I could ask you the same thing.” She replied softly.

  “I asked you first.”

  “I couldn’t sleep.”

“Wanna try again?” Luke asked, getting up and holding his hand out to Jessica. She took it and followed him down the hallway.

Tucking themselves back under the covers, Jessica stared at the ceiling. She asked herself why Luke was laying in her bed. She didn’t really have much of an answer to her own question, all she knew was she was thankful she wasn’t alone.

To some people it might seem crazy to have a stranger in your bed after knowing each other for a mere fifteen hours. In Luke and Jessica’s mind it felt like forever. They just clicked.

No, it wasn’t love at first sight.

Jessica couldn’t stand the sound of Luke’s band but she loved his voice. She knew very well who they were and wasn’t the happiest to be dragged along to one of their gig’s by her close friend but it suddenly all became worth it.

It’s a bit of a crazy story of how Jessica and Luke even came in contact.

He spotted her frown in the crowd. He didn’t mention it to his band members but he kept his eye on her. She stood out in a crowd of thousands. Luke himself didn’t understand that. It was as if the rest of the crowd was blurred and vanished and she was just standing there with her arms crossed waiting to be seen.

Once the show had ended, Jessica was fed up and annoyed with everything and everyone around her. She was tired and just wanted to go home and sleep. She left her friend to driver herself back to her house. Jessica didn’t live far from the venue; she said she’d walk home.
