I wrote this one when I was in 8th grade. It was for a school project in (Roman Catholic) religion class about Pollution and our relationship the planet. Incorporated a bit of my religion in there obviously (I'm Pentecostal Christian but between us and Catholics, the base is the same- just a side FYI)
I used to write so much, mostly poems and short stories for kids but I always deleted them or ripped them up because I didn't like them. Most of my poetry is depressing and sad and full of anger at the world because obviously that is how I am/was. I am starting to think most people can relate to pieces of my writing, if not the whole thing. There's a lot to be mad at in today's world.
My mom recently told me that I should stop erasing my brainchildren from the world, so I will not. My plan is to post them here instead, but first I post the ones I have of old. Enjoy.
The earth is what God made for us,
A place to belong for you and me.
A place for all to be prosperous,
A place where being poor should never be.
God's intention as he put us here- not to stay,
Was to care for it in every way.
For the animals, for the birds and the bees,
For the smallest lakes to the largest seas.
"Caring is sharing"- a saying we all know,
Why not practice and make all the world so?
For each other and also for ourselves,
For the plants and those make-believe elves.
"How do we take care?" you may ask,
First read the bible to find your task.
It goes something like this, to paraphrase some things,
To love your neighbour as yourself, with all your beings.
Such things, God knows, are difficult for some,
Why not make doing them fun, something like a pun?
Water others- especially those in need,
Just as a flower needs when it takes seed.
Give them good soil, a foundation to grow in,
And allow the roots to sink deep to let them keep growing.
The gulf has widened, poor become poorer,
Think about it; does not your mind get sour?
The poor and rich, so much distance between,
The past and present, so much growing happening.
But as we grow,
We all should remember
If people past were like us,
We would have nothing to squander.
So as you scientists develop more,
And as miners and others discover more,
And as we consumers consume more,
Think as if tomorrow, you will have no more.
No more to discover,
No more to ponder,
No more to destroy,
No more to employ.
For as the present us destroy each other,
We destroy the innocent like no other.
We destroy our future, beings and lives,
We kill a lot, though we cannot revive.
Next time you mine, check your coordinates,
See if you are close by any rivers and lakes.
And as you dig, find one of many ways,
To keep beings away, the pollution at bay.
As we dissect discover pollute,
Think not only about taking, but how much you put.
Because just as we destroy the earth
We destroy also ourselves
From the biggest giant to the littlest elves
