Angelo's POV
I paused as I heard the elderly couple's conversation. I know every name on my guest list. I might not be able to put a face to the names but I know who is or isn't on the list. De Luca definitely isn't. There is only one person in this whole party whose name wouldn't be on there...
I slowly approached the couple, placing my hand on the gentleman's shoulder before speaking.
"Mi scusi (excuse me)."
I watched as they both turned around slowly, the lady's face lighting up instantly as she rose to her feet.
"Angelo, il mio ragazzo (my boy), it's so good to see you!" She swung her arms around my neck before pulling and kissing me on the cheek.
"We are so very sorry to hear about your father. He was a good man and I know you will make him proud." She said softly with a disheartened expression.
"Thank you." I bowed my head gently towards her. Can we now end this small talk so I can get to the more pressing matters? I opened my mouth just before she unknowingly cut me off.
"How's your Mamma?" She asked me curiously. I guess the small talk continues. I sighed softly.
"She's well. Living life as much as she can." She seemed satisfied with the answer so before she could inquire further into my life I conversed quickly.
"Signora (ma'am), I couldn't help but overhear you speaking about someone," I expressed cautiously.
"Oh, yes, I was just asking mio marito (my husband) about that beautiful girl on the dancefloor." She gently and discreetly pointed to the dance floor. I felt my heart racing the closer I got to this.
