I can't believe what happened. I saw my mother stabbed in front of me and I could nothing to save her.
"Why?Why me, she was finally happy. I could see my family finally coming back together. Why now?"
"My child, what happened was beyond anyone's control. The police want to talk to you. Don't worry, Sister
Theresa and I will be there with you. You don't have to worry about anything. It's just a small investigation".
After I saw my mother's body, my mind went black. I was in shock for thirty minutes. My mind finally came to senses but police already reached the crime scene before I called. I was sent to the hospital and my mother was declared dead. Since I am a juvenile, questioning by police can only take place in front of my parents or guardian. I don't have any guardian, so they asked my school principal to act as my guardian for this investigation." Where were you during the time of the murder?"
"I can't believe it. You are suspecting me of killing my own mother. She was my mother. I could never do this to her".
" Well, we are not suspecting you of anything. We just want to know what happened""Here's what happened, I had a great day with my mother. I was tired so I went to sleep and when I woke up, I saw her dead body. This is what happened".
" She died from a stab wound which means she must have screamed and called for help. How come you did not hear that ?"
"I don't know and for now I want to go home. You said this questioning is not mandatory until you discover the autopsy report or the murder weapon. So, I want to go home now", at this point , I was done. They are asking me instead of finding the real killer."Ok, fine but is there someone else that you suspect?"
"Robert......."
I told police regarding the whole incident about their fight and break up. Somehow, the investigator got confused, he went out and talked to some fellow policemen. Turns out, Robert was the one who informed the police regarding mom's murder.
On the way back home, my mind was spiralling the whole ride. Finally, the silence was broken by Sister Theresa who consoled me. I saw a different warming side of Sister Theresa. Finally, the principal broke his silence.
" I never imagined that the police would be so unreasonable, how could they ask such questions to a child who recently lost her mother", I could sense anger in her voice.
"This was highly unprofessional, they asked a child such questions without having concrete evidence. I don't trust them with this investigation. "
Father is right, police are lousy and can not be trusted. This means I have to find my mom's killer. Once, I find him, I will kill him with my own hands.
"Alina? Alina? You were not answering my question. Who do you think did this?", asked Father Jude?
" Robert.."
I finally reached home and saw that Claire was already there. She brought some breakfast with her and comforted me with a warm hug. I busted out crying. I felt such relief in a long time. I knew I could trust her and she is the only one who won't judge me. I told her the whole story of what happened at the police station. She became agitated and asked me, "What are we going to do next?".
We. I loved this about her and I knew she could be trusted. She is ready to be by my side no matter what.
"I don't trust the police, we are going to investigate and find the murderer ourself."
Back at the school's church.
"Father, we prepared the church for the funeral as you instructed. We called the police and we will receive the body in a week"." Good work, Sister Theresa."
"I just hope that the investigation finds the criminal soon so Mrs. Woods spirit can rest in peace".
"I know that the killer will be caught sooner or later but not by the police. "
"What do you mean by that Father?", asked Sister Theresa.
"Nothing..let the investigation begin "
